Chapter 10
“What else?”
She wasn’t interested in acting in the first place. Since someone was eager to pay her termination fee—and that someone was the story’s male lead—why wouldn’t she terminate the contract?
Lu Mingxuan’s lips pressed into a thin line, clearly dissatisfied. But why should Qiu Chi care about his opinion?
Ultimately, the contract was terminated.
Qiu Chi left Huaming Entertainment with Gu Ting. He turned his head to look at her, his expression softening slightly as he asked, “It’s noon. What do you want to eat? Let’s have a meal together.”
“Did you forget to take your medicine?”
Gu Ting’s brow furrowed in confusion. “What do you mean?”
“It means, are you an idiot? Eating with me? You might be able to stomach it, but I can’t!”
Gu Ting’s expression instantly darkened. He took a deep breath, suppressing his anger. “An'an, I know you’re angry with me because of what happened before, but Yingying grew up with me. I’ve always treated her like a little sister. She’s your sister, too. I couldn’t just stand by and watch her die, could I?”
“Now that she’s recovered, it’s time to start planning our wedding. It’s just that Yingying is a bit emotionally unstable right now because of some things, so just give me a little more time. Don’t worry, I only see Yingying as a sister.”
Qiu Chi looked at Gu Ting, finding him utterly beyond words.
How did he have the nerve to say he saw Su Yingying as a sister?
And Su Yingying, too. She’d tried to be clever, only to have it backfire spectacularly.
Back when Gu Ting was fawning over her, she claimed to see him as a brother. Now that Gu Ting had revealed himself to be a scumbag, Su Yingying had likely had a change of heart.
The two of them were a hassle. They should just be shackled together.
But the plot wasn’t over yet. It was impossible for Gu Ting to have no lingering feelings for Su Yingying, so he wanted to keep both of them on the hook.
Qiu Chi held back, and held back, but in the end, she couldn’t resist and threw a punch.
Having been hit three times in a row, Gu Ting was furious. “Su An'an, are you losing your mind again? I’ve already explained everything, what more do you want? Don’t push me into fighting back!”
Qiu Chi sneered. “You really can’t read the room, can you? You actually think I can land a punch because you’re being magnanimous and not stooping to my level? You’ve got quite an imagination. Go on, give it a try.”
And Gu Ting did think that way. He clenched his fists, but Qiu Chi’s next blow was even more vicious.
Previously, she’d only left him with a few bruises, and the pain would last a few days at most. This time, however, she showed no mercy, landing him in a hospital bed, unable to move for half a month.
And even then, Qiu Chi felt she’d gone easy on him.
“From now on, stop spewing that disgusting nonsense at me. You know, you’re even more repulsive now than when you were coveting my kidney.”
“If you’d been faithful to Su Yingying from the beginning, I could at least respect you as a person. But looking at you now, you’re worse than a dog.”
“Call an ambulance yourself.”
Even though Qiu Chi had left Huaming Entertainment, it did nothing to diminish Liu Yuer’s hatred for her. The plot continued to unfold, only now Liu Yuer had to work harder.
She hired private investigators and even tried to have her assassinated.
Too bad for her, none of it had any effect on Qiu Chi.
Qiu Chi continued to study programming and, on a whim, hacked Liu Yuer’s computer, where she discovered some interesting things.
It turned out Liu Yuer and Lu Mingxuan were a match made in heaven—both of them were fond of keeping stand-ins.
Without a second thought, Qiu Chi bundled up the evidence and sent it to Lu Mingxuan. Whether he got angry or simply didn’t care was none of her concern.
Who knows? Maybe she’d even played matchmaker and brought the two of them together.
Qiu Chi also looked into Su Yingying’s situation and finally understood what Gu Ting had meant by “emotionally unstable.”
She couldn’t help but sneer, “Scumbag!”
She felt she’d still gone a little too easy on him.
Still, Qiu Chi wasn’t surprised. Gu Ting had agreed to the engagement Su Yingying mentioned—the plot was still in motion, after all.
The truly fatal blow for Su An'an would come when the fantasy drama aired and when the wedding Gu Ting spoke of was actually put on the schedule.
Qiu Chi couldn’t feel Su An'an’s suffering, but there was no denying that Su An'an’s life was a tragedy.
She’d met not one, not two, but three scumbags.
Three scumbags:
One was indecisive and fickle, always either hurting her or on the verge of hurting her.
Another had stopped hurting her, but only because he saw her as a stand-in—and a second-rate one at that. He still cared more for the sister his white moonlight had personally asked him to look after.
Then there was the one who professed his love for her but only wanted to possess her. The moment trouble arose, he would stand by coldly, refusing to get involved, not even to clear up lies he knew were false.
Add to that two malicious younger sisters.
One coveted her kidney and then tried to steal her man, all while being two-faced and hiding a dagger behind a sweet smile.
The other, also over a man, was hell-bent on destroying her.
“Tsk, Su An'an must have done something terrible in a past life, right? She must have owed these people a huge debt, don’t you think?”
System: 【No, she didn’t. This is the world of an abuse novel heroine. Of course they’d make it as tragic as possible.】
“Oh. So in my world, I was also tragically abused and had a bad ending?”
【P-Perhaps. I’m not entirely sure. I only detected that you were the heroine of an abuse novel…】
Qiu Chi didn’t expect the system to give her a satisfactory answer anyway.
And she certainly didn’t believe she would ever fall in love with that repulsive Qing Yue, let alone die for him.
She lowered her gaze, no longer concerned with Su An'an’s plot, and returned to her book.
Previously, she’d thought about properly experiencing this world. But now, with a phone and a computer, there was no need to go out. Besides, she’d learned most of what she needed to know during her two and a half months on the film set. There was no reason to go out now; she could just wait peacefully for the final plot point to arrive.
And so, Qiu Chi became completely engrossed in reading. She started at home but soon moved on to the city’s largest library. She would arrive punctually every morning as the doors opened and only leave at closing time, more diligent than the library staff themselves.
Meanwhile, Liu Yuer, powerless against Qiu Chi, was practically dying of rage. To make matters worse, Lu Mingxuan had suddenly grown cold toward her, constantly avoiding her and refusing to see her. The worst part was that she had no idea why, leaving her unable to even offer an explanation.
Liu Yuer blamed all of it on Qiu Chi. Even though Qiu Chi and Lu Mingxuan had no contact whatsoever, she was convinced it was all Qiu Chi’s doing.
In a way, she wasn’t wrong.
But she was still powerless to do anything to Qiu Chi.
Seething with rage, Liu Yuer started throwing things around her room. Her assistant cowered in a corner, not daring to utter a word for fear of becoming the target of her fury.
“No, this can’t go on. I have to ruin her reputation, no matter what it takes.”
Liu Yuer once again turned her attention to Fang Yuming. Plenty of people knew they had been together. Whether Fang Yuming was willing or not, she was determined to brand Qiu Chi a homewrecker!
