Chapter 38
Qiu Chi beat up the frantic Jian Yu.
When the first punch landed, Jian Yu’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Alice, you actually hit me?!”
The moment she heard that name, Qiu Chi grew irritable.
The subsequent blows, however, were not aimed at his face.
After giving him a solid beating, Jian Yu lay on the floor questioning his existence while Qiu Chi went back to reading.
By the time Qiu Chi had finished a book, Jian Yu finally climbed up from the floor, his gaze toward her full of suspicion and scrutiny.
Qiu Chi ignored him, found another book, and continued to read.
Jian Yu stared at Qiu Chi for a long while before speaking, having now returned to his normal self. “I thought about a lot of things while I was lying on the floor. Starting from yesterday when I called out to you, you began acting very abnormally.”
“Not only did you suddenly want to change your name, but you also violated your programming and attacked me, your customizer. Alice—no, perhaps I should call you Qiu Chi. Have you developed your own consciousness, or are you simply not Alice at all?”
Qiu Chi had no intention of hiding it, and Jian Yu wasn't an idiot. The sudden disparity had simply made it impossible for him to think calmly. Now, after a beating from Qiu Chi, he could finally compose himself.
Only then did Qiu Chi raise her eyes to look at him. “Now you look like a normal person. Of course I’m not Alice. I told you from the beginning that my name is Qiu Chi.”
“Then what about Alice?”
Qiu Chi thought for a moment and gave a reply that sounded rather absurd: “She is everywhere.”
Jian Yu frowned. “What does that mean?”
Looking down at her book, Qiu Chi said, “It means exactly what it says. You can leave now. Do whatever you want, but don’t bother me. And don’t even think about telling the robot customization center or some research institute about me. If you do, I guarantee you’ll die a miserable death. You can try me if you don’t believe it.”
Jian Yu was still unaccustomed to Qiu Chi’s arrogance. “This is my house.”
Qiu Chi paused in the middle of turning a page, then looked up at Jian Yu. “True, this is indeed your house. As payment for staying here, I can be your bodyguard, guarantee you won’t die, and even help you become the head of the Jian family.”
At the mention of the Jian family, Jian Yu’s expression soured. He didn’t really take Qiu Chi’s words to heart. “In any case, you’re using Alice’s identity right now, and Alice is my exclusive custom robot. You can live here as you please.”
With that, Jian Yu turned to leave. But after taking two steps, he paused and asked without turning back, “Will Alice ever come back?”
Qiu Chi’s cold voice came from behind him. “She won’t.”
Her presence here meant that the original soul had voluntarily given up her entanglement with the male lead. After all, the process involved was far from pleasant—it was even somewhat cruel.
But that didn’t mean they were dead. They had simply become part of the rules that perfected their worlds. They were their worlds, omnipresent within their respective realms.
After a moment of contemplation, Qiu Chi lowered her head and resumed reading.
After leaving, Jian Yu sat outside the manor for a long time, his mind filled with memories of his time with Alice. He felt a pang of sadness. After all, Alice was the robot exclusively customized for him on the day he came of age, and a person could only ever have one.
But now, although the robot was still here, she was no longer the one who had belonged only to him.
Jian Yu’s dejected mood didn’t actually last long. In his heart, he might feel a sense of pity, regret, or even a moment of sadness, but it didn’t mean much. To him, Alice was just a slightly special robot.
A call came in from his gang of dissolute friends, inviting him out for drinks. He agreed without much hesitation.
Before heading out, he glanced toward the study and was surprised to see Qiu Chi standing at the window, looking down on him from above.
Jian Yu found it a little strange, but Qiu Chi was thinking about what would happen to him on this outing.
Initially, Jian Yu wasn’t in any real danger. At most, his decadence would displease the family, leading them to favor his cousin, Jian Qiu, even more.
Jian Qiu was an ambitious man. If his father hadn’t gone missing, his father would have been the head of the Jian family, making him the rightful heir.
Faced with Jian Yu, who had received the best education from a young age and was the center of everyone’s affection, how could Jian Qiu not be jealous?
Jian Yu’s debauchery wasn’t enough for Jian Qiu. He wanted him to become so obsessed with love that he would act recklessly, even willingly die for it.
He wanted Jian Yu to die.
However, while Jian Yu indulged in debauchery, it was highly unlikely he would become so obsessed with love as to die for it.
Even when Jian Qiu deliberately sent people to get close to Jian Yu, his attempts always ended in failure. After all, Jian Yu was far too fickle; no woman ever stayed by his side for more than a week.
No matter how intimate they had been, the day he grew tired of them, Jian Yu would become exceptionally cold.
But this time was a little different. The woman Jian Yu met this time stayed by his side for a full month.
What was special about this woman was that her eyes resembled Alice’s, especially when she smiled at him, her gaze holding only him.
It had to be said that Jian Qiu was a clever man. After all, a custom robot was designed entirely based on the customizer’s preferences. But Jian Yu was no fool either; one month was the absolute limit for anyone to stay by his side.
Qiu Chi knew what would happen next, but she had no intention of stopping it.
Perhaps she could make the plot in this world unfold more perfectly.
After all, most of the plot revolved around Jian Yu; it was just told from Alice’s perspective.
The abuse in this world was emotional, which was just perfect for Qiu Chi. She loved to be an indifferent bystander.
Although Jian Yu found it strange that Qiu Chi had stopped reading, he didn’t dwell on it. After all, his friends were waiting.
At the club, his friends immediately surrounded him the moment he arrived. “Brother Yu, heard there are some newcomers today. Interested in taking a look?”
“Go on, Brother Yu, take a look. If you’re not satisfied, we’ll get you another batch.”
They had already heard that Jian Yu had kicked out that woman from yesterday.
Jian Yu nodded. “Then let’s have a look.”
The moment Jian Yu spoke, someone immediately made a call. Soon after, the club manager led a line of people to stand before him, like merchandise waiting to be selected.
In fact, it wasn’t much different from merchandise, as his friends beside him were already chattering away.
“I think the second one from the left is pretty good. Busty with a thin waist, just my type.”
“I like the one in the middle wearing white. She looks innocent.”
“Brother Yu, see anyone you like?”
Jian Yu was rather unenthusiastic. After all, Qiu Chi hadn’t held back with her beating today. Though he had sprayed medicine on his face and the bruises had faded, his entire body still ached.
He swept his gaze over the line of people, and then his eyes paused on one woman.
