Chapter 61
As the male protagonist of the scandal, Educated Youth Sun's expression was exceptionally ugly at this moment.
He was still dreaming of returning to the city one day; how could he possibly be willing to marry a village girl?
But the affair had blown up to the point that the whole village knew. If they didn't get together, not only would Zhang Maizi's reputation be ruined, but if she turned around and accused him, he could be arrested for hooliganism.
In other words, whether he was willing or not, he was destined to marry Zhang Maizi.
Educated Youth Sun's expression was grim, and he was filled with resentment for Qiu Chi, who had exposed the affair.
As for Qiu Chi, she had no time to bother with Educated Youth Sun. She had become famous in the village.
Unlike the last time she was slandered by Old Woman Zhou, this time her fame was purely due to gossip.
Those who loved to gossip would pull her aside, trying to pry some information from her.
And those with a guilty conscience would either take a detour when they saw Qiu Chi or eagerly approach her. "Erxi, here, have some candy. Besides the thing with Maizi and Educated Youth Sun, what else do you know...?"
Qiu Chi found it annoying. She pushed the candy back and said expressionlessly, "I don't know anything. Don't ask me again. Even if I did know, I wouldn't tell you, provided they don't provoke me."
Since no one could pry a word out of her, the buzz around Qiu Chi gradually died down.
The ones who became the hot topic again were Zhang Maizi and Educated Youth Sun—the two of them were getting married.
Qiu Chi thought she could finally have some peace and quiet, but she had no idea things weren't over yet.
Things concerning her in the village had quieted down, but things at home were anything but.
Old Woman Zhou hadn't behaved for long before she started courting death again.
She felt she couldn't control Qiu Chi, so she decided to sell her. The cover story would be that a distant relative with no children had adopted her.
Whether anyone believed it or not, with a story like that, no one could find fault with it.
Even if someone was suspicious, no one would bother to get to the bottom of it.
When Qiu Chi heard Old Woman Zhou's plan, her face darkened. She went straight to find Old Woman Zhou's partner in crime: Educated Youth Sun.
That's right. Educated Youth Sun had put in considerable effort to give Old Woman Zhou this idea. He had always resented Qiu Chi for exposing his affair with Zhang Maizi.
With a cold smile, Qiu Chi knocked Educated Youth Sun out with a club and dragged him back to the Zhou house.
The Zhou family was aghast to see Educated Youth Sun. After all, everyone except the clueless San Fu knew about the plan.
They had planned to keep it from Qiu Chi and then find an excuse to make her leave with the buyer.
Qiu Chi looked at their expressions and sneered. "Trying to sell me? It seems I've been too nice to you lately, making you forget your place."
Without waiting for them to speak, Qiu Chi slapped Educated Youth Sun across the face, knocking the unconscious man awake.
Educated Youth Sun was still in a daze.
Qiu Chi looked down at Educated Youth Sun lying on the ground, her voice icy. "Educated Youth Sun, were you the one who went into the reeds with Zhang Maizi? If you didn't want to marry her, you shouldn't have done it. Now that you have, you're afraid of people talking?"
"And you wanted them to sell me? Do you think you're so capable? How about I go tell everyone that you didn't just go into the reeds with Zhang Maizi, but you've also been to the woods with someone else?"
At this, Educated Youth Sun finally snapped out of his daze.
He scrambled up from the floor, instantly towering over Qiu Chi. He glared at the Zhou family and said, "What are you all standing there for? She's just an eight-year-old girl. How strong can she possibly be? Let's tie her up together and send her away when the time comes."
Qiu Chi found Educated Youth Sun to be quite bold, acting so fearlessly right in front of her.
Then again, her appearance was indeed deceptive.
An eight-year-old girl facing three men, two women, and a teenage girl. On the surface, it seemed it would be easy to restrain her.
Father Zhou and Educated Youth Sun moved to grab Qiu Chi. Grandfather Zhou sat to the side, smoking his long-stemmed pipe without moving, while Old Woman Zhou watched, eager to join in.
Mother Zhou held San Fu without a word, and Dahua simply turned her head away.
Qiu Chi looked at the two men towering over her and found it laughable.
She didn't dodge or flee. She simply smiled and said, "The walls in this room are thin. Try not to scream too loudly in a bit. It would be bad to attract an audience."
With that, she clenched her fists and struck.
Though Qiu Chi was only eight, she was agile and surprisingly strong. She quickly knocked both men to the ground.
Noticing the horrified gazes of the others, Qiu Chi continued to smile. "We're not done yet."
To prevent them from screaming too loudly, Qiu Chi deliberately gagged them.
Then, she proceeded to beat them soundly, leaving them half-dead.
Once she was satisfied, Qiu Chi dusted off her hands and stopped, looking at the others in the room with a smile. "So, you wanted to sell me?"
The room was dead silent. Qiu Chi asked again, "Why the silence? Cat got your tongue?"
After a long moment, Grandfather Zhou finally spoke. "N-no, that's not it. No matter what, you're still my granddaughter..."
Unfortunately, his words carried no conviction whatsoever.
Qiu Chi, however, was satisfied. "If you dare to get any funny ideas again, what happened to these two on the floor will be your fate."
With that, Qiu Chi dragged Educated Youth Sun out of the house.
Only after Qiu Chi was long gone did they rush forward to check on Father Zhou's condition.
