Chapter 153
After making things clear with the Tanhua Lang, Qiu Chi thought they would have nothing more to say, but who knew the Tanhua Lang was quite the chatterbox.
He began recounting the daily life he shared with his beloved, showering Qiu Chi with tales of his romance.
Hearing his final summary, Qiu Chi knew exactly what the Tanhua Lang was planning.
He was probably afraid Qiu Chi would go back on her word, so he thought he could soften her up by talking more.
At first, Qiu Chi didn't mind listening, but after a while, she grew annoyed. “Alright, shut up.”
“It’s bound to be boring with just the two of us, so I thought I’d tell you some things you haven’t heard, Princess, just to pass the time. Of course, if the Princess would like to talk about things that have happened to her, I would be all ears.”
Qiu Chi glanced at him and said, “Fine, I’ll tell you a story then. Once, there was a chatterbox who buzzed in my ear every day. At first, I was bored, so I listened for a while. But then the person just wouldn’t stop. I got annoyed and told him to shut up. He didn’t listen, so I had someone sew his mouth shut.”
The Tanhua Lang was speechless.
He was a little embarrassed and a little scared. He gave a dry laugh and said, “Princess, you… this… I’ll stop, alright?”
Finally, there was quiet.
Although they weren’t doing anything while sitting together, it was better to have some peace and quiet.
At dinner, the Tanhua Lang still had a poor appetite. Seeing how well Qiu Chi was eating, he couldn’t help but sigh, “You truly are carefree, Princess, to be able to eat at a time like this.”
Qiu Chi couldn’t even be bothered to respond to him.
With no one to talk to, he quieted down on his own.
That night, the Tanhua Lang slept hunched over the table again, and the door was locked from the outside as before.
To prevent them from sleeping apart, the room was furnished with only one bed and one quilt.
There were no soft couches or anything of the sort.
Although it was spring and not freezing, the nights were still quite cool.
The Tanhua Lang couldn’t help but try to negotiate with Qiu Chi. “It’s cold at night. Could I have the mattress pad from the bed to cover myself?”
Qiu Chi threw the entire quilt over to him.
The Tanhua Lang fumbled to catch it. “This-this-this, how could I? If you give me the quilt, what will you cover yourself with?”
“Less nonsense.”
After shutting the Tanhua Lang up, Qiu Chi slipped out again.
The Tanhua Lang watched Qiu Chi leave, wanting to run over and sleep properly on the bed.
But then he remembered the beating from Qiu Chi. It had hurt too much. He’d better be good and sleep at the table.
Qiu Chi, naturally, had gone to make trouble for Jian Ninghua.
When Qiu Chi arrived at the General’s Manor, the courtyard of Jian Ninghua’s residence was surrounded by people, packed tightly together.
Unfortunately, no number of people was enough. Qiu Chi still appeared inside Jian Ninghua’s room.
Jian Ninghua’s room was lit with many candles, making it very bright. He had cleared out any potential hiding spots and places where shadows might fall at night, so the room now looked empty and spacious. In this situation, if someone were to appear in the room, they would definitely cast a shadow.
Not only had the room’s interior changed drastically, but there were also many people stationed outside his room.
Observing all this, Qiu Chi couldn’t help but click her tongue in mock admiration. “Well now, you’ve prepared quite thoroughly, haven’t you? All to guard against me, I presume?”
Qiu Chi’s voice appeared abruptly in the room. Jian Ninghua shot up from his bed, ignoring the risk of his wounds splitting open, and scanned the room.
But he couldn’t see Qiu Chi’s shadow.
He cried out in shock, “This is impossible?!”
“Where are you? Where is your shadow?”
Qiu Chi’s voice was leisurely and tinged with a smile. “Why are you looking for my shadow? I don’t have one. Aren’t there a ton of people surrounding your room and courtyard? Why don’t you call them in to find me? Go on, call them in.”
Jian Ninghua was still muttering to himself, “This is impossible. How can a person not have a shadow? Impossible…”
Although a certain word had already surfaced in his mind, he didn’t dare say it aloud, only trying to hypnotize himself into believing it was impossible.
“It must be you. You used some trick to make your shadow disappear. You’re just a shameless coward who only knows how to hide.”
“That line again. I’m tired of hearing it over and over. I clearly walked in right in front of so many people, so how am I hiding? You, on the other hand, a waste is a waste. I gave you so many chances, and you still couldn’t find where I was, could you?”
“No matter what, you must be in this room. Even if you’re skilled, with so many people, I refuse to believe we can’t catch you.”
With that, Jian Ninghua shouted, and the people outside the door rushed in, while those in the courtyard went on high alert.
But they turned the room upside down and still couldn’t find Qiu Chi.
Someone looked at Jian Ninghua and said, “Miss, could it be that you’re overthinking things? There’s no one in the room. This room was already set up so no one could hide, and we’ve searched everywhere without finding anyone. Were you having a nightmare?”
They couldn’t find Qiu Chi, nor could they hear her voice.
But Jian Ninghua could.
Qiu Chi’s mocking voice was in his ear. “Tsk, they didn’t find me. You called in so many people, and they still couldn’t find me. See how much of a waste you are?”
Jian Ninghua’s expression was exceptionally ugly.
He looked at the cautious faces around him and roared, “She’s speaking right now! Are you all deaf? Can’t you hear her?”
Jian Ninghua’s words sent a jolt through the others.
The room was clearly bright, yet they felt a chill all around them.
Someone swallowed nervously and said in a small voice, “Miss, you must have had a nightmare and are still trapped in it. There’s… there’s no one speaking here…”
In fact, what they really wanted to say was whether Jian Ninghua had provoked something unclean, which was causing all this, but they didn’t dare.
Jian Ninghua was about to die from anger.
Qiu Chi was still laughing. “What to do? They can’t hear me. This must mean you and I are fated to meet.”
“As long as you’re willing to admit you’re a waste, I’ll disappear immediately. I guarantee I won’t bother you again, how about it?”
Jian Ninghua still refused to admit it. “Stop playing these ghostly games. If you have the guts, come out.”
“Admit you’re a waste, and I’ll come out.”
“You come out first. If you come out, I’ll admit it.” Provoked by Qiu Chi, Jian Ninghua practically spat the words through gritted teeth.
Qiu Chi disagreed. “You wish. If you don’t admit you’re a waste, I’m not coming out. After all, you’re the one who looks like they’ve lost their mind right now.”
To the others in the room, Jian Ninghua’s words sounded like he was talking to himself.
They desperately wanted to run out now, but since Jian Ninghua hadn’t given the order, they didn’t dare disobey and flee. Yet staying in the room, they felt a chill run down their spines, terrified a ghost might suddenly appear from somewhere. Helpless, they could only huddle together and shiver.
Jian Ninghua was still being stubborn. “I won’t admit it unless you come out. As long as you come out, I’ll admit it.”
That’s what he said, but it wasn’t what he was thinking.
As long as she came out, he was certain he could capture her. He would torture this person who had humiliated him to death!
