Chapter 33: The Cold-Blooded Witch
Hearing that the Witch had bestowed Silver Water upon her, Ji Ning—who, as a Villager Card unable to verify her identity—felt her joy just beginning to rise, only to hear Jiang Ting say,
"I don't indulge Silver Water sentiment. So this No. 6 will be under my watch. If her speech is poor, I can handle both the escort and the delivery."
Ji Ning: ...So ruthless.
After Jiang Ting's speech, it was the turn of the No. 11 male player. His expression was panicked; he seemed to be a newcomer entering the game for the first time. As the On the Sheriff Ballot speeches began, he shouted, "Where is this?! Let me out! Who are you people?! Stop with this ghostly charade!"
The cold female voice announced: 【Player No. 11 has spoken out of character. Elimination enforced.】
As the words fell, No. 11's eyeballs gradually bulged outward, his face an expression of utter terror. He struggled ceaselessly, both hands choking his own neck, his lips turning a dark purple yet unable to make a sound. Then he gradually vanished.
This was the first time Ji Ning had seen someone violate the rules and be eliminated during the Werewolf Game segment.
The scene was silent, yet more chilling than any horrific imagery.
Except for Jiang Ting, whose face remained expressionless, everyone else—including veterans who had weathered many instances—changed color.
But the game continued. The speech order now fell to the No. 10 female player.
No. 10 was sitting right beside No. 11 and was badly shaken, but she still composed herself and delivered her speech word by word: "I am the Seer. Last night I checked No. 6: Gold Water. Badge Stream first 9, then 3. I hope the Town Faction can recognize me."
Ji Ning raised an eyebrow. She was now Gold, Silver, and Dew Water combined, making her the focal point of this round of Werewolf. Her speech would be crucial.
After No. 10, Nos. 8 and 7 spoke, though none of them provided any useful information.
Then it was the turn of the No. 4 male player to speak; his energy was high: "I am the true Seer. No. 10 is a Counterclaim wolf. Yesterday I verified the lower seat No. 5: Town. Badge Stream 9, then 7. No. 10 has already flushed out one wolf. No. 11 left with an unknown identity; we won't speculate about him. I want to see the votes; in the second round of speeches, I'll decide whether to adjust the Badge Stream. Over."
After No. 4, only one person remained for the On the Sheriff Ballot speeches: No. 3, He Huihui.
He Huihui brushed the hair by her ear and said, "Between No. 10 and No. 4, I think No. 4 is more convincing. No. 10 claims to have checked No. 6 but doesn't mention her reasoning path; her reach is too long. It's more like 'daytime checking'—borrowing No. 1's statement to grant Gold Water to the Silver Water while potentially pulling votes. Her speech also lacks fullness and her composure isn't good enough. No. 4's speech is superior to No. 10's, and his composure is more Seer-like."
After all seven On the Sheriff Ballot players had finished speaking, the Sheriff election voting phase began. In the end, Nos. 5 and 6 voted for No. 10, while Nos. 2, 9, and 12 voted for No. 4. The No. 4 male player became Sheriff.
No. 4 chose sequential speech, starting from No. 5.
No. 5 was a new player who seemed to have barely played Werewolf. He only said he was Town and believed No. 4 was the Seer before ending his speech.
Next, it was Ji Ning's turn.
Ji Ning spoke methodically: "First, I thank the Witch for saving me. I am Town, genuine Silver Water. Secondly, I've also accepted the Gold Water No. 10 bestowed upon me. I believe No. 4 is the Hard Claim wolf. There are four reasons.
"One: If No. 10 were the Hard Claim wolf, granting Gold Water to the No. 6 seat would be very abrupt. It wouldn't necessarily guarantee vote success and would only create one more confirmed Town slot. Two: No. 3's logic in attacking No. 10 is the opposite of my own, and she Picked a Side with No. 4 on the Sheriff ballot. Three: No. 4 verified No. 5 as Gold Water, yet this speech order has No. 3 doing the Vote Consolidation. Is that because No. 5 flipped, voted for No. 10, and thus Vote Consolidation carries risk, right? Of course, it's also possible No. 5 is a flipped Deep Cover wolf; leave him to No. 10 to handle. Four: Both No. 10's and No. 4's first Badge Stream is No. 9. No. 9 voted for No. 4, which makes me suspect No. 4 and No. 9 are aligned. No. 4 verifying No. 9 was just to let No. 9 shift votes smoothly. I trust No. 10. Speech over."
In truth, Ji Ning had another reason to suspect He Huihui was a wolf, but saying it would be out of character.
She had noticed that when daylight broke and He Huihui saw that the No. 6 seat was occupied by her, a flicker of schadenfreude flashed through her eyes.
Connecting that to the Witch saying Ji Ning had been targeted by the Wolf Kill last night made everything clear.
If they'd encountered a Witch who didn't use the antidote on the first day, Ji Ning would have faced elimination without even getting to speak a single word.
This meant He Huihui had opened her eyes during the night and conspired with her wolf teammates to knife No. 6, Ji Ning, hence that reaction.
In this round of the game, because Ji Ning had caught He Huihui's reaction, she accurately identified her as a wolf. Combined with her structured speech, which swayed Town players who had picked the wrong side, the Werewolf Faction—even after seizing the Sheriff Badge—could not reverse their losing momentum.
In the end, No. 3, He Huihui, was voted out through public Banishment on the first day. The remaining three wolves were swiftly dealt with, securing a victory for the Town Faction.
Notably, Ji Ning's speech had moved Jiang Ting, who held the Witch Card, prompting him to use his poison on the body of the No. 4 Wolf Sheriff.
When the Werewolf Game concluded, Ji Ning saw Jiang Ting's cold eyes linger on her for a moment.
They were, after all, Town teammates who had worked together to seize victory. Yet his gaze looked at her as if she were merely a roadside camphor tree.
