The Ascent - Chapter 74

Chapter 74: The Lamp

Qi Daolin sat on the bed, watching as Qi Daoning let down her hair and shed her outer clothes. Only her inner tunic remained, draped loosely over her body with the front open, the roundness of her breasts pushing up in a beautiful, half-hidden curve. She tossed her clothes to the floor and walked toward Qi Daolin, but as she leaned down, Qi Daolin raised a foot to press against her shoulder.

"Go put out the lamp," Qi Daolin said.

Qi Daoning smiled helplessly and gently took hold of her ankle. Her scorching palm pressed against the slender ankle, the heat making Qi Daolin tremble slightly. Unwilling to admit defeat and pull her foot back, she could only curl her toes in embarrassment. Qi Daoning held her foot, lowering her head to kiss the instep, her face a picture of reverence.

"Qi Daoning!" Qi Daolin snapped, snatching her foot back and wrapping herself in the quilt. Qi Daoning saw the tips of her ears redden and felt a surge of delight. She put out the lamp, plunging the room into darkness, then felt her way onto the bed and pulled Qi Daolin's entire body into her arms. A flurry of kisses landed on the nape of her neck, then teased their way forward from behind her ear to the side of her cheek. She knew all too well how to please Qi Daolin; in just a moment, Qi Daolin's breathing grew heavy.

Qi Daoning turned her over and rose to press down on her. It was too dark to see clearly, but Qi Daoning remembered every detail of Qi Daolin. Her kisses traveled down from her forehead, over the space between her brows, over her eye sockets, over the tip of her nose, and over the corners of her lips. She traced the person she loved so deeply with her lips and tongue. The lamp was extinguished, but the fire in her heart burned eternal.

Qi Daolin bit her lip and made no sound. Qi Daoning was patient, slowly teasing her, making her ache to her very core until she had no choice but to beg.

"...Hurry up..."

"Elder Sister, who are you calling for?"

"...A'ning... faster... A'ning... mmm..."

A long while later, Qi Daolin emerged from her ecstasy. Panting, she lay draped over Qi Daoning's shoulder, the weight of half her body pressing down on her. Qi Daoning let her lie there, their legs tangled, rubbing lightly against each other.

"Don't move," Qi Daolin frowned.

"Is Elder Sister tired?"

"Can't you think about something else..."

Qi Daolin gave her a light punch, and Qi Daoning obediently stopped moving. She just held Qi Daolin in her arms, savoring this rare moment of peace. Her elder sister was always saying one thing and meaning another. During the day, she would push her away; only at night, in bed, would she reveal such a charming side.

Lying in her arms, listening to her steady heartbeat, Qi Daolin finally found the mental space to think carefully about the day's events. She still felt her parents' decision was too hasty. Chuzhou was a border region; an 800-li express message to the Capital City took seven days, making communication slow. By the time Chuzhou could react, it would be too late. The Capital City didn't understand Chuzhou, and in truth, Chuzhou didn't understand the Capital City. Her Majesty had dismissed Lu Songnian from office ten days ago, causing the great families to fall apart. Her parents saw this as a sign that there was no room for reconciliation between Her Majesty and the great families. If they didn't act now, and waited until the families were defeated one by one, there would be no chance left. But what she saw was that Her Majesty had moved against Lu Songnian just as the New Policies were about to be implemented. She had acted so decisively against the power of the great families in the capital; she feared she already had a solid plan and was fully prepared. Was it even possible that Her Majesty was just waiting for someone to stick their neck out, so she could make an example of them?

"What is Elder Sister thinking about?" Qi Daoning, pressed close against her, sensed she wasn't sleepy and asked.

"I'm thinking that news from the capital is still too slow, and what arrives is too fragmented. It's like looking at a leopard through a tube—impossible to see the whole picture. It would be better if you were still in the capital," Qi Daolin sighed.

Qi Daoning wrapped her arms around her waist, holding her a little tighter. "Is Elder Sister trying to send me away?"

"Of course not. If you were in the capital, I could just follow your decisions. Why would I feel so uncertain, like I do now?" For the past few years, Qi Daoning had often traveled between the two places, serving as the Qi Family's eyes in the capital. But since the gambling case last year, Lu Songnian had written a letter holding their father accountable. Their father was furious and had given Qi Daoning a beating. He no longer let her handle affairs in the capital, instead having Fourth Uncle stationed there. Fourth Uncle had great ambition but little talent. He was reliable enough to manage personnel matters in the capital, but he couldn't see very deep into court affairs. The news he sent back was merely a selection of important events, completely lacking in analysis or judgment. Right now, they only knew that Lu Songnian had been forced to resign, but they had no idea what the cause was, what the repercussions were, or what the Lu family had exchanged with Her Majesty. They knew nothing at all.

"Then I'll take that as Elder Sister praising me?"

"You," Qi Daolin said, amused. She propped herself up and whispered in Qi Daoning's ear, "I've been thinking it over and over. We shouldn't push things to the point of no return right now. You have a way, at the Wazhai Stronghold, don't you?"

"Elder Sister means..."

"Tell them over there not to deliver a killing blow to that official."

"Does Elder Sister have that much faith that I can do this behind Father and Mother's backs?" Qi Daoning's hand grazed Qi Daolin's waist, a touch-and-go caress that teased her to the point of annoyance. She pressed her hand down and said, "I have never doubted your abilities."

"Haha," Qi Daoning chuckled lightly. Pressing close to her ear, she said softly, "I can agree. It's just that, Elder Sister, what's in it for me if I help you?"

Her suggestive breath ghosted over her ear, making Qi Daolin's cheeks flush. She thought for a moment, then gritted her teeth, pushed herself up, and straddled Qi Daoning's hips. She leaned down to kiss her, but Qi Daoning placed a hand on her shoulder, stopping her.

"Hm?" Qi Daolin hummed in confusion.

Qi Daoning laughed happily. "Light the lamp."

Qi Daolin stiffened for a moment, then sighed and got up with resignation.

The lamplight flared. Qi Daoning lay on her stomach at the edge of the bed, turning her head to watch Qi Daolin light the next lamp. The dim yellow light outlined Qi Daolin's curves. She was still naked—her rounded shoulders, straight back, and full hips were illuminated by the light as if coated in a lustrous sheen, like translucent jade, dazzlingly beautiful.

One by one, the lamps were lit, until the room was as bright as day. Qi Daoning's eyes adjusted for a moment, and then she saw Qi Daolin walking toward her, her breasts swaying slightly, a graceful, alluring sight. The face she couldn't see before was now clear. It was a face extremely similar to her own—only, her own was alluring and passionate, while Qi Daolin's was dignified and graceful. Since childhood, people had always praised her beauty, but she always felt her elder sister was the more beautiful one. Though they had different charms, their features were clearly similar. Her elder sister was unwilling to face it, but she adored that face. So beautiful. I want to see her lose herself for me, want to see her go mad for me.

"What's there to look at?" Qi Daolin said reproachfully, seeing her smiling expression.

"Elder Sister is very beautiful." She seemed drunk, a hazy, ambiguous smile on her face. Her gaze fell directly on Qi Daolin's body—her face, her chest, her waist, her legs... and even the secret place between them.

Qi Daolin grew annoyed under her gaze. She took a few steps, got on the bed, and pressed her whole body onto her back. Kisses landed on her spine, then turned into bites, leaving ambiguous red marks. There was anger in her heart—anger that Qi Daoning had schemed against her, anger that Qi Daoning had pierced through her self-deception, and anger at her own lack of resolve, at her own powerlessness.

Qi Daoning never hid her pleasure in bed. Her gasps and moans were melodious and moving, making Qi Daolin's breath catch. Her hand slipped between her buttocks and met with wetness. She grunted, wanting to teach Qi Daoning a lesson. She had intended to thrust three fingers in directly, but at the last moment, her heart softened. She held two fingers together and slowly buried them deep inside, drawing a delicate moan from Qi Daoning.

"Does it hurt?" she asked, leaning close to Qi Daoning's ear.

"No... it's fine... mmm..." Qi Daoning answered, panting.

Qi Daolin then began to move with confidence. Panting, Qi Daoning gripped the other hand that was supporting her body.

"Elder Sister... Elder Sister..." Qi Daoning's grip grew tighter and tighter, her voice growing more and more delicate as she called out. She called out unconsciously, but each cry was a reminder to Qi Daolin of what she was doing.

She was on top of her younger sister, doing something that violated all moral principles. She should have resisted, should have stayed away. But in truth, at this moment, she only wanted to make A'ning cry out in more, even more delicate sounds. She was the one who was deeply sinful, the one who was beyond redemption.

All the lamps were lit, and the room was very bright. She could clearly see Qi Daoning's shoulder blades, tensed to the point of trembling from the intense pleasure. She leaned down and kissed her, pinning down Qi Daoning's uncontrollable struggles.

Qi Daoning could barely breathe. She called out intermittently, begging nasally, "Elder Sister... Elder Sister... I want to look at you..."

Qi Daolin held her down and brought her to climax. She kissed the side of her face soothingly, then withdrew her hand and turned her over. Qi Daoning fell back onto the bed, gasping for air, her chest heaving violently. Qi Daolin said nothing. She pulled her into an embrace, leaning her against the headboard, and knelt between her legs so that Qi Daoning could see her clearly. She lifted Qi Daoning's legs onto her shoulders, pinning her against the headboard, and using the moisture that had just gushed out, her two fingers pushed inside again.

"Ah..." A pleasant sound spilled from Qi Daoning's throat, making Qi Daolin's nerves jump in response.

Qi Daolin knew what Qi Daoning wanted. Unlike her own evasiveness, Qi Daoning never denied that she was deeply in love with her elder sister. She liked to see Qi Daolin in bed; she needed to confirm that the person making love to her was Qi Daolin.

In this position, she could clearly see Qi Daolin's face, so similar to her own. She could also see the flush born of passion, and the madness and obsession that colored those clear eyes because of her. Only at this time could she clearly see the love that Qi Daolin kept hidden, afraid to speak of.

And in this position, Qi Daolin could also clearly see every detail on Qi Daoning's face—whether it was pleasure or pain, emptiness or satisfaction. Everyone said Qi Daoning was stunningly beautiful, but no one knew that only the Qi Daoning in her bed was truly graceful and alluring, born with an innate seductiveness. This Qi Daoning, only she knew.
