Ji Ning looked in the direction Song Weiyang indicated.
Outside a supermarket on another small street near the hotel, the rolling metal gate had been pulled shut. A group of Living Dead clawed inward through the bars, only to have their eyeballs pierced by the hooked end of the steel rod used to latch the gate, their brain tissue destroyed and dying a second death.
The man inside the metal gate handling this task, despite his actions, still had immaculate hair and attire, his expression un-twisted, as elegant as someone pruning overgrown branches in his own garden.
Who else could it be but the Big Star, Sheng Churan?
However, as he killed, more straggling Living Dead, drawn by the commotion, kept throwing themselves at the door from outside. The crisis hadn't diminished in the slightest.
And the metal gate was already visibly bending inward, severely deformed.
Ji Ning thought, no wonder we hadn't run into Sheng Churan. He was just around a corner from them. If they hadn't come up to this high floor, they might have missed him entirely.
Song Weiyang scraped his shovel against the carpet twice and said to Ji Ning, "He can't hold out much longer like this. Captain, wait here, baby. Brother Xing and I will go bring him up."
Xing Ye walked behind Ji Ning and glanced down. "His method is too clumsy."
Hearing a hint of disdain in Xing Ye's tone, Ji Ning's eyes widened as she turned her head to look at him. Meeting her gaze, Xing Ye gave her a faint smile and said, "Let's go, Xiao Song."
Ji Ning blinked. Why did she feel like she caught a whiff of vinegar?
Then she shook her head, watching Xing Ye's tall, straight back as she thought silently: Brother Xing Ye is probably just objectively judging Sheng Churan's method.
The two men left, closing the door. She was alone in the room now. Ji Ning gripped her spiked club, stood by the bed, and watched in Sheng Churan's direction, a little knot of tension forming in her stomach.
To rescue Sheng Churan, Xing Ye and Song Weiyang each grabbed a pot lid from the kitchen as a shield, along with the tools for what Xing Ye called a—better method. They exited through the hotel kitchen's back door, which led directly to the supermarket.

Though Sheng Churan appeared very composed on the surface, he was actually growing anxious. If he remained trapped like this and missed Ji Ning, encountering her again would be very difficult.
Just then, a male voice rang out—lazy and casual, yet exceptionally pleasing to the ear due to its magnetic timbre.
"Sheng Churan, stand back."
Sheng Churan recognized it. It was Xing Ye's voice. The man who held an important place in Ji Ning's heart, the Points Leaderboard celebrity who crushed high-game-count scores with his low game count.
Also, the dangerous romantic rival who had lured Ji Ning away in Werewolf and stolen her from him.
Now seeing him in person, whether in looks, build, voice, intellect, or presence, Xing Ye brought considerable pressure upon Sheng Churan, a man accustomed to seeing top streamers and models.
He was a worthy opponent to go all out against.
And that sunny, cheerful, yet very capable young kid—Ji Ning had a special closeness with him; you could tell she trusted him deeply.

Following Xing Ye's instruction, he retreated further inside. Then, through the gaps on either side, he watched as Xing Ye and Song Weiyang herded the Living Dead together, doused the pile with oil, and tossed a lighter. With a roar, flames shot skyward, crackling and popping as they burned the Living Dead into fireballs stripped of their aggression, emitting mindless, low-pitched howls. The smell of roasting meat wafted through the air.
Sheng Churan mused silently that this Xing Ye's methods were truly wild, yet also daring. Risking turning this place into a focal point just to rescue him.
Afterward, the burning clump of Living Dead was scraped aside by Song Weiyang's shovel, and the area in front of the supermarket gradually cleared.
Sheng Churan used a fire extinguisher from inside the supermarket to put out the scattered blazes by the door, then opened it and stepped outside. Coordinating with Xing Ye and Song Weiyang, he took down the Living Dead approaching from behind one by one, before entering the hotel together with them.
Once the back kitchen door was sealed shut, Xing Ye gestured with his hand and said, "Let's go. Ning-Ning is upstairs."
"Thanks, brothers," Sheng Churan said, expressing his gratitude politely and sincerely. Maintaining an attacking stance behind them, the three fought their way back up to the fourth floor.
Hearing the knock, and a muffled "Good girl" through the door, Ji Ning unlatched the chain lock and opened the door, throwing herself forward without even looking.
"That was amazing! That was amazing!" Ji Ning wrapped her arms around Xing Ye's neck, bouncing with excitement.
Watching Xing Ye and Song Weiyang's domineering fire-starting rescue from upstairs had thrilled her to no end. She felt like if that scene were put in a movie, it would be a heart-stirring blockbuster moment!
Xing Ye seized the brief moment she bounced up, wedging one arm under her bottom and scooping her into his embrace. He carried her inside the room with one arm.
Sheng Churan, bringing up the rear, walked in and closed the door.
Only then did Ji Ning realize she shouldn't have blocked them at the doorway—it was very dangerous. It was all because she was too excited, carried away.
"My fault, my fault. I should have let you guys come in first," she said, ashamed.
Xing Ye set her down, wiped his hands clean on his clothes, and smiled as he ruffled her hair.
Only then did Ji Ning and Sheng Churan meet each other's eyes.
Sheng Churan put down his weapon. His smile was stunningly gentle, and he even opened his arms toward her.
Ji Ning walked up to him and hugged him tightly, saying in a lighthearted tone, "Welcome back to the squad, Heartthrob!"
