She lowered her head and slowly chewed her bread, the happy expression on her face fading a little.

The two of them walked out of the little house hand in hand. The two brothers and the eldest daughter-in-law hadn't gone to bed yet. Sheng Churan asked for them, "Host, where is the washroom?"
The three Yao people looked at each other, at a loss.
Ji Ning stuck her head out and added, "You know, the toilet, the outhouse."
She figured in such a remote, poor area with wooden houses, the term and the toilet facilities wouldn't be as fancy as in the city.
The hostess raised her hand and pointed. "Go out the door and around back, there's a little shed on the right."
"Thank you," Sheng Churan and Ji Ning said in unison, then walked out the door.
The moment they stepped outside, an absurdly cold wind hit them, making both shiver.
When they went around back and found the little thatched hut standing alone, the Big Star Sheng Churan was completely dumbfounded.
"You can go to the bathroom in there?"
"Yes, it's called a dry toilet," Ji Ning explained.
The two of them stood blankly outside the cloth curtain, pulled the light cord, and saw the two mysterious wooden planks protruding from under the curtain. They were both a bit bewildered.
Then Sheng Churan lifted the curtain and squeezed into the toilet together with Ji Ning.
Ji Ning looked at Sheng Churan's delicate face, which seemed so out of place here, and said, "Alright, I can do it. Wait for me outside, okay?"
Sheng Churan shook his head. "Those planks look dangerous. Do you dare squat on them?"
Ji Ning turned her head to look; below the planks was pitch black, and it did look really scary. If the planks suddenly cracked, she'd fall right into the cesspit.
Indeed, human imagination is the source of most fears.
"What do we do then?" Ji Ning asked Sheng Churan. She hadn't been scared at first, but after he said that, she wasn't so brave anymore.
Sheng Churan steadied Ji Ning's shoulders and turned her around so her back was against him, then lifted her skirt and pulled down her pants. "Sit on me and pee."
Ji Ning's eyes widened in shock. Before she could speak, Sheng Churan grabbed her behind the knees and lifted her, so she was fully leaning against him.
Then he squatted down, spreading her legs toward the toilet hole.
Ji Ning's face flushed bright red. This was way too embarrassing!
