Chapter 153: Ancient Side Story: Devouring the Little Wet Nurse (2)
After meeting Prince Duan, Ji Ning had finally, in a manner of speaking, formally secured her stay.
The Prince's mansion was extravagantly generous. A wet nurse's provisions—food, clothing, and daily necessities—were all of the same standard as those for the first-rank maids who attended directly upon the masters. And the young master, only three months old, was very easy to care for.
Aside from being allowed to return home only once every three days, Ji Ning thought this job couldn't possibly be better.
After purifying herself and changing into the clothes prepared by the mansion, Ji Ning preceded Sun Niangzi and remained in the inner chamber to tend to the young master.
Seeing the little baby crying piteously in the cradle, she coaxed him while gently lifting him up in his swaddling clothes. Unfastening her outer garment and pulling aside her undergarment, she held the infant and brought his little head close to her chest.
Ji Ning's own child was only five months old, a time when her milk was plentiful. In just the short time after her purification and change of clothes, her undergarment was already slightly damp with milk, giving off a faint, milky fragrance.
The moment the young master caught that scent, eyes closed, he nuzzled around blindly like a little puppy. Before long, he found her nipple and held it in his mouth, suckling sweetly.
"Mmm..." A soft moan escaped Ji Ning's lips at the unfamiliar touch.
Because it wasn't her own child, even though it was just a tiny infant, it made her sensitive body break out in a strange, tingling sensation, both numbing and ticklish.
To distract herself, Ji Ning shifted her gaze away from the young master's face.
But an inadvertent glance, a hem of black brocade clothing trespassed into the corner of her vision.
Startled, Ji Ning looked up in panic to see a man in black, holding a sword, sitting on the tree branch right outside her window.
Though lush leaves obscured half his figure, one could still see he was exceptionally handsome and possessed of remarkable martial prowess.
Ji Ning stared up blankly, meeting his gaze that was looking down from above. Her heart nearly stopped.
"Who are you?" she asked in alarm, using her wide sleeve to shield the pale creaminess before her, concealing the sight of her nursing.
The sword-carrying man in black jumped down from the branch, which was higher than the roof, landing lightly on his feet. With agile skill, he vaulted through the window and into the room, standing before Ji Ning.
"I am the Dark Guard assigned to protect the young master. My surname is Xing, my given name Ye." The man's low, mellow voice rang out, answering Ji Ning's question. He then took her wrist and opened it, leaning in closer to observe the young master feeding.
Hearing an identity tied to the young master, Ji Ning held perfectly still, not daring to stop him.
Although she hadn't been at the mansion for long, she had already guessed that this young master's status was precious and his origins far from ordinary. He was likely being raised secretly in Prince Duan's mansion.
Now, it seemed her guess was correct. This Dark Guard, Xing Ye, dispatched to protect the young master—one could tell merely by his bearing and presence that he was no ordinary man. He was certainly a top-tier master.
For Xing Ye to reveal his name to her without any reservations, Ji Ning felt, was probably because she was just a little wet nurse, a creature of no threat whatsoever in his eyes.
And if she showed any sign of being amiss, Ji Ning thought the only outcome would be for him to draw his blade and sever her head from her body.
With that thought, she could only let him look without moving a muscle, even though her clothes were now half-undone, her fragrant shoulders fully exposed, and her bosom revealed without reservation before another's eyes.
Before long, the young master fell asleep feeding in Ji Ning's arms, his mouth, still latched onto her nipple, having stilled.
Xing Ye uttered a low command: "Put the young master back in the cradle."
Ji Ning nodded, not daring to speak further. Rising, she arranged her clothes slightly, carefully placed the swaddled infant back into the cradle, and covered him with the brocade blanket.
Fortunately, her movements were gentle; the young master did not wake.
Looking at that tender little face sleeping so soundly, Ji Ning let out a sigh of relief. Right now, before the Dark Guard's eyes, she dared not make a single mistake.
Ji Ning straightened up and was about to look at Xing Ye to report to him, when the view before her eyes suddenly inverted.
He had lifted her up sideways in his arms.
Carrying her towards the carved canopy bed behind the drawn curtains, Xing Ye gave a brief explanation: "I need to inspect you to see if there is any problem."
Panic-stricken, Ji Ning tilted her head up to look at him, able only to see the strong line of his jaw and the proud tip of his nose.
She dared not resist, nor dared she make a sound for fear of waking the young master.
And so, Ji Ning was carried by Xing Ye and placed upon the bed, watching helplessly as he lowered one side of the bed curtain and then pressed in before her.
Her heart pounded wildly with tension. Involuntarily, she took deep breaths in and out, causing her chest to rise and fall unceasingly, the sight within the bed curtains brimming with arousing spring color.
Seeing Ji Ning like this, like a frightened fawn, Xing Ye couldn't help but recall the first time they met.
Back then, as a newcomer who had just stepped into the Survival Game, Ji Ning had been the same—flustered yet full of unyielding resilience. She attracted without being aware of it, and even he failed to escape unscathed.
Seeing this Ji Ning again now, Xing Ye's heart softened to a complete mess. He wanted to kiss her lips with the utmost tenderness, yet also wanted to pin her beneath him and tease her until she cried.
Fixed in place, Ji Ning watched Xing Ye halt right above her. His deep, profound eyes met hers, as if capable of drawing a person into that deep whirlpool.
Holding his sword in one hand, he moved the end of the scabbard to her sash. With a light hook, her sash came undone, scattering open. With another flick of the scabbard, her outer garment was pushed aside, sliding completely from her shoulders. Left in nothing but her undergarment, she lay vulnerably, half-reclined upon the lake-blue brocade quilt.
To make matters worse, the ties of her undergarment had long been loosened by Ji Ning herself when she'd been nursing the young master. Now, they hung slackly around her neck, revealing half a mound of snow-white, creamy flesh, in a semblance of coy resistance.
Ji Ning was so mortified that her face instantly flushed crimson. She moved to pull her undergarment back into place, but the raised arm was caught in Xing Ye's grasp.
His expression was perfectly normal, but the words he spoke shamed her to the extreme: "What are you covering? Only by taking everything off can I conduct a thorough inspection."
