Chapter 5
Gu Sijiu slept especially soundly that night. In the morning, she got up, showered, and went to the Original Host's walk in closet to find something comfortable to wear. As soon as she entered, she realized her idea was completely unnecessary. Though the Original Host was a Major General in name only, the wardrobe contained nothing but military uniforms: long pants, long sleeves, everything designed to cover the body tightly. Even the shoes were mostly combat boots, the kind of straight laced style that Gu Sijiu would never have given a second glance on the street in the past.
Standing in the walk in closet, Gu Sijiu was at a loss. She felt she should respect the Original Host's taste, but she was no Alpha, she was a real woman who simply couldn't appreciate these clothes. Besides, the Original Host was not tall, looked slender, and had this feminine face, wearing military uniforms just looked awkward no matter how you saw it.
After eyeing the entire room's wardrobe with distaste, she finally chose a tracksuit; the loose, comfortable fabric was at least wearable. When she went downstairs, she found the servants had indeed left. Song Jinzhi sat at the table, gazing at the holographic display in front of her showing the latest news and some financial reports.
Gu Sijiu recalled the previous night's incident. She ought to thank Song Jinzhi for helping apply the ointment, but remembering the parting words, her gratitude naturally vanished. She walked over and said a cool "Morning," but Song Jinzhi gave no reaction. Gu Sijiu looked at her and muttered under her breath, "Wooden Face." It wasn't exactly quiet, and Song Jinzhi at her side heard it. She frowned slightly, but had no other reaction, still lowering her head to read financial reports and occasionally sipping the coffee in front of her.
With Song Jinzhi giving off such a "stay away" vibe, Gu Sijiu didn't plan to keep bothering her. From last night or even earlier, she had noticed that there were certain issues between Song Jinzhi and the Original Host. Their relationship was stiff, not even reaching the level of friends, let alone two people about to get married. Gu Sijiu wanted to get along well with Song Jinzhi, but the other's attitude clearly had no such intention. She didn't know what grudge existed between the two; since the other didn't want to deal with her, she had no need to put her warm face against a cold butt.
Gu Sijiu ate a few bites of breakfast at random and decided to go through the things the Original Host left behind to see if she could find any memories. She went to the study and called up the holographic computer from her wrist communicator. Looking at the files with their messy names, she went through them one by one. Then in a hidden folder, she found some photos. These photos were clearly taken stealthily, with Song Jinzhi as the main subject, along with various Alphas and Betas appearing in the frame.
Looking at these photos, Gu Sijiu found them baffling. She didn't understand why the Original Host would secretly photograph Song Jinzhi. She flipped through them one by one, unable to grasp the meaning of these pictures. Gu Sijiu got up, intending to pour a glass of water and rest a bit before continuing. The moment she stood, a swelling, dizzy sensation hit her brain, making her vision go black. Images slowly emerged in the darkness, piece by piece assembling into scattered memories.
These were probably memories about the Original Host and Song Jinzhi: incomplete content, with no clear record of how they met. The scenes began with their engagement banquet. At that time, they had a sense of being together yet apart, but Song Jinzhi did not reject the Original Host the way she does now; she just talked a little less, without the present hatred.
But the scene shifted abruptly to the night of the engagement banquet. The Original Host was extremely drunk, and Song Jinzhi helped her back to the room, kindly undressing her, when she inadvertently discovered the "physical defect" of the Original Host. For any Alpha, lacking a first sexual organ was the secret of all secrets, the Original Host's greatest taboo; once touched, it would inevitably provoke her violent rage. The Original Host jolted awake, pushed Song Jinzhi to the ground, and began screaming and shouting hysterically, demanding to know what gave Song Jinzhi the right to act on her own. After that, she behaved like a lunatic: mocking Song Jinzhi with sarcastic remarks, sometimes even shoving and hitting her. An Omega's body is much more delicate than an Alpha's, and Song Jinzhi was often injured by her. Coupled with the Original Host's constant mockery, Song Jinzhi's disappointment deepened, and her expression grew increasingly indifferent.
The last memory was the day Gu Sijiu arrived in this world: Song Jinzhi was talking with an Alpha at work, a scene the Original Host happened to see. That was their fiercest fight: the Original Host hit Song Jinzhi and nearly strangled her. If Song Jinzhi hadn't smashed a vase over her head, she would certainly have died.
When these memories surfaced, Gu Sijiu's face turned pale with fury, her whole body trembling, and she wished she could drag out that twisted Original Host and beat her. The things the Original Host did to Song Jinzhi were no different from those of a scumbag husband who domestically abuses his wife. Gu Sijiu had always despised such people, never did she expect that after coming to this world, she would become the one committing the abuse. And what was most unbearable was that when recalling these scenes, her brain could vividly feel the excitement the Original Host had while doing those things. Like a castrated eunuch whose psyche had twisted, she actually enjoyed tormenting Song Jinzhi, finding pleasure in seeing her unhappy.
After absorbing this past, Gu Sijiu felt utterly awful. She stayed in the study the whole day, pondering what she should do now. If possible, she wished she could return to her own world immediately, but thinking about it, she knew there was no way back, or at least, for now, she had found no way.
After mulling it over, she decided she must have a proper talk with Song Jinzhi. Not to reconcile, the things the Original Host did made reconciliation absolutely impossible, but at least to give the other a guarantee of safety. With that thought, she once again stood at Song Jinzhi's door, but this time, she wasn't as relaxed as the night before.
"Miss Song, are you in? I need to discuss something with you. Could you please come to the living room?" Gu Sijiu spoke with full politeness. Song Jinzhi, who was reading in her room, paused at these words, wondering what trick Gu Sijiu was pulling. She checked the time; the servants would be arriving soon, so she wasn't worried about any antics. She opened the door and went downstairs with her.
"Miss Song, there have been some unpleasant incidents between us. Due to this car accident, I've lost some of my memories. I'm very sorry for the trouble I've caused you in the past."
Gu Sijiu decided to use the all purpose amnesia excuse; after all, she genuinely couldn't recall everything the Original Host experienced. She saw that after she finished speaking, Song Jinzhi was momentarily taken aback, then quickly returned to her previous indifference and sarcasm. Gu Sijiu knew that Song Jinzhi harbored considerable wariness toward the Original Host; chances were, whatever she said now, Song Jinzhi would only consider it a lie.
"You say you have amnesia? Do you think I'll easily believe that? Or do you think everything you've done can be written off with a single 'I lost my memory'?" Song Jinzhi said scornfully. She had always looked down on this about Gu Sijiu. This person always blamed others for anything that went wrong, never examining herself. No doubt she still thought she hadn't done anything wrong, and that her own current plight was self inflicted.
"Time will prove that I genuinely intend to get along peacefully with you. Once my injuries heal, I'll move out to live at the military base." Gu Sijiu didn't want to make the relationship worse, but she also couldn't bear the injustice of taking the blame for the Original Host and enduring Song Jinzhi's reproach. From Gu Sijiu's perspective, Song Jinzhi's personality and conduct were exactly the kind she'd always disliked; their attributes were outright opposites. The current solution Gu Sijiu found was to live separately from Song Jinzhi, so there would be no room for conflict. Barely had her words fallen when a voice came from the door.
"Without my permission, you're not going anywhere!"
