Chapter 195: Tycoon Town (11)
【Player No. 11 failed the PK and is completely dead.】
【All weapons and items belonging to Player No. 11 now belong to Player No. 6.】
In the new notification issued by the system, Ji Ning's number 6 appeared prominently.
At the same moment, the three men in three separate squares all stopped when they saw this message. Gazing at "No. 6," they couldn't help but raise the corners of their lips in a faint smile.
The same thought crossed their minds simultaneously: "As expected of my woman."
…
The item dropped by No. 11's elimination was actually just a single glass marble.
Ji Ning picked up the dagger and the glass marble. She placed the marble together with her own two, frowning slightly as she pondered what use these seemingly random toys could possibly have.
Then she picked up the music box rewarded for dealing with the giant octopus earlier. She flipped it over to the bottom—as expected, there were no batteries inside.
Luckily, she had the batteries she'd gotten from Jiang Ting, which happened to be a perfect match for this.
After installing the batteries, Ji Ning switched on the music box.
It was a snow globe music box. As the switch flipped on, the melody of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" played from the base. Blue lights and white flecks swirled inside the snow globe. Under the gaze of a little girl figurine looking up from the bottom, the scene inside the globe resembled a starry night sky with falling snow.
It was quite beautiful, though the music box was clearly a bit old and worn from handling.
The three glass marbles were the same—they had some scratches and were far from brand new.
Based on her experience from the previous rounds, among the clearance rewards, only food and weapons were useful for passing the game. The rest of these little toy-like items had never yet proven useful.
Ji Ning switched off the music box and quietly reflected on everything she had encountered from start to finish.
Among the weapons, there had been a toy magic wand that could actually exert real power, an old wooden desk, a dilapidated room, monsters full of fantasy, and now these little toy rewards.
Ji Ning felt as if she were trapped inside a nonsensical dream related to a child.
Just as she was pondering this, a new notification appeared on her system panel.
【Player No. 12 failed the square challenge and is completely dead.】
This time, Ji Ning had passed her survival trial relatively quickly. The other players, even those who failed and were eliminated midway, hadn't been faster than her.
As the number of dice rolls progressed, the puzzles and survival challenges within the squares were becoming harder and harder. She had no idea where the end actually lay.
Thinking of rolling dice, Ji Ning suddenly realized: the place she was in now was all ocean, with only this small boat beneath her feet to stand on. Where was the die?
She bent over to look under the boat board she was sitting on, and sure enough, it was placed right there in that tiny space.
Originally there had been eight players. Now two were gone, and there was one fewer person ahead of Ji Ning. Logically, the waiting time should have shortened again.
But perhaps because everyone was now facing challenges with doubled difficulty, the time spent was a bit longer.
So the waiting time Ji Ning experienced felt even longer than the previous round.
When the indicator light at the bottom of the boat lit up, Ji Ning pulled out the die and gave it a small toss, rolling a 7.
For her fifth transfer, she was about to jump to the thirtieth square.
The white light dissipated. This time, the square was once again outdoors in the dead of night.
But compared to the forest with the wolf pack in the second round, this location was a bit more frightening.
It was a gloomy, desolate wilderness covered in grave mounds.
A gust of wind blew past, and Ji Ning felt a chill, like a sinister draft.
With the magic wand in her left hand and the dagger in her right, she felt under-equipped for this setting. She also clutched the talisman she had taken from Qin Yanshu in her hand.
In the dark night, only the cold moonlight provided a sliver of visibility.
All around, weeds grew wildly. As the wind blew, shadows flickered and danced everywhere, making it feel as though something terrifying could emerge at any moment.
Her heart tight with tension, Ji Ning advanced step by cautious step. As she rounded a tall grave mound, she suddenly collided head-on with a living thing.
"Ah!" Ji Ning let out a small, startled cry and slapped the talisman onto the thing's forehead with a smack.
But the object—a yellow paper with red spell markings—was clearly useless against him. Not only did it not freeze him in place, but he wrapped both arms around Ji Ning and held her tightly in his embrace.
The feeling of that embrace was extremely familiar. Ji Ning's racing heart calmed down, and she nuzzled against the crook of his neck. "Heartthrob, you scared me to death."
Sheng Churan hadn't been scared originally, but Ji Ning's sudden yelp made his own heart jump. After that jump, though, only boundless joy remained.
After five jumps, he had finally reunited with his wife. This time, it should be the others' turn to wait for him, right?
He was determined to make them wait until they lost all will to live. Who told that damned system to ruin his fun last time, leaving him high and dry with nowhere to go?
