Chapter 236: Life-or-Death Maze (14)
Perhaps because her mind had been filled with distracting thoughts during the contract process, Ji Ning's Arousal hadn't dropped much after it ended.
She wiped herself down again, topped off her Cleanliness, dressed, and left the forest with the Knight Order.
One of the blackberries Sheng Churan had picked restored 15 points of Hunger. Just before passing through the woods, Ji Ning ate another one to fill her Hunger bar, squeezing out every last bit of benefit.
After exiting the forest, everyone tacitly accepted that the Purple-Side Princess Faction was now fully assembled. No more unfamiliar men would be joining them.
It had gone so smoothly and so coincidentally that Ji Ning couldn't help but suspect this distribution had been manipulated by the force behind the system from the very start.
At the Werewolf table, she had been too shocked by the six men to even notice whether the other four male players—No. 2, No. 5, No. 10, and No. 11—knew Female Player No. 8.
If they really had been divided into two factions from the beginning, they might have been dropped into the maze in two separate, opposing regions.
The other five couldn't reach the seven of them, preventing any early conflict.
That way, whether it was the early Princess-Knight contract process or the later life-or-death standoff between the two factions, the visual entertainment value would be significantly higher.
Was this kind of artificial control an isolated incident? Or was every instance like this?
Ji Ning still remembered when she had first asked Xing Ye if they would ever meet again, and his answer had been, "Hard to say. It's all random."
Which meant that, before her, Xing Ye had personally never encountered a situation where he ran into someone he knew again.
Yet afterwards, the frequency with which she met Xing Ye, Song Weiyang, Jiang Ting, Sheng Churan, Qin Yanshu, Yan Qiao—every single one of them—far exceeded the probability of "random."
Could it be the various rankings influencing this? Like that Popularity stat of unknown origin.
Or was it something specific to Ji Ning herself? Or perhaps it was connected to them?
Looking at it now, many things that had happened to her were no coincidence.
At this moment, Ji Ning's heart held both the sorrow of living under another's control, and the gratitude that every person she had met had been good to her.
"What are you thinking about, so distracted?" Qin Yanshu asked her softly. "In Brother Ting's arms, you remember to look at him. When I carry you, your mind wanders."
Ji Ning pulled back her thoughts and her empty, distant gaze, lifting her eyes to Qin Yanshu.
His lips were pressed lightly together, a trace of discontent there, but his expression was still relaxed and gentle.
"Thinking that I'm so lucky to have met all of you," Ji Ning said, flashing him a smile. Obediently, she wrapped both arms around Qin Yanshu's neck, nestling into the crook of his neck, her cheek against his skin.
She was so close that a simple pout of her lips would let her kiss his neck. And so she did.
She felt Qin Yanshu's entire body tense, his hands holding her back and the bend of her knees tightening, his grip strengthening by several degrees.
Such a light kiss, and his reaction was this strong. Ji Ning couldn't help reflecting that Qin Yanshu truly was the one she had spent the least time with among all the men. Even Yan Qiao, the last one she'd met, had accumulated more time with her than he had.
She really had neglected him.
Ji Ning's originally loose embrace tightened, clinging to him firmly. Leaning against his chest, she used a very small voice, one only the two of them could hear: "Yanshu~"
Qin Yanshu lowered his voice too: "Mm?"
Ji Ning whispered in his ear: "Both times, you had to do the licking for me. It's been unfair to you."
A perfectly fine, aloof divine immortal, and every single time he ended up stuck with this kind of thankless, "dirty and tiring" job.
Qin Yanshu's eyes blinked slowly. He tilted his head and replied: "Then, did you enjoy it?"
The first time, she had held back. The second time, Jiang Ting had been there too. He hadn't ever given a woman such meticulous and thorough licking before, and didn't know if she liked it—or whether it was truly him she liked.
Ji Ning's cheeks flushed faintly: "You licked especially well. I liked it."
"What are you two whispering about?" Jiang Ting turned his head, raising an eyebrow with a smile at the sight of them being so lovey-dovey.
Qin Yanshu replied flatly: "She said she likes me."
In an instant, everyone's gazes shot towards Qin Yanshu like icy daggers.

"Pretty Boy Qin either says nothing, or drops a bombshell."
"Where'd he learn that from?"
"Probably provoked by Yan Qiao."
