Chapter 107
On the afternoon of Teachers' Day, Xia Linxia stood in the office, a group of teachers in front of her looking at her with peculiar expressions.
Xia Yangxuan was reading the “love letters” she had given to the various teachers.
“Brother, I already told you, my deskmate grabbed the wrong ones. These were written to me by someone else, not the thank-you letters I was going to give the teachers,” Xia Linxia said pitifully.
Her homeroom teacher, naturally, didn't believe she would do such a thing and let her off with a few words of guidance. But Xia Yangxuan, on the grounds that she was neglecting her studies, confiscated her pocket money for the next six months and threw the letters into the trash can by the door.
“Well, now, your class’s Xia Linxia is quite popular, isn’t she? The love letters she’s received in the past two years could probably be bound into a book,” the homeroom teacher from Class Two said with a laugh as he walked in.
Xia Linxia looked over and saw a tall, slender girl following behind his short, stout figure. The sunlight cast a shadow behind her, but her face was cold, her eyes holding a hint of indifference. She was wearing the newly issued school uniform.
Such a fine person, why is she dressed so plainly?
She then looked down at her own multi-colored, painted uniform, which was fashionably tied in a knot to show off her waist!
“Is this the new transfer student for your class?” Xia Linxia’s homeroom teacher asked.
“Yes, her name is Ji Fengxue. Her mother took a position at the local university this year, so she transferred to our school.” The Class Two teacher beamed, then turned to handle Ji Fengxue’s paperwork.
“Alright, Xia Linxia, you can go back to your classroom now,” her teacher said.
Xia Linxia turned to leave. As she passed by Ji Fengxue, she noticed her backpack wasn’t zipped up and heroically helped her zip it. Her eyes paused, and she excitedly pulled a phone and a comic book from the bag. “Contraband! Confiscated!”
Ji Fengxue looked over, her voice cold. “Give them back.”
“No way. This week’s inspection is finally complete.” Xia Linxia pulled a red armband from her pocket, gave it a perfunctory flick, and then put it on her sleeve. “As the Student Council President, I have the right to confiscate all contraband. Right, teacher?” She grinned cheekily at the Class Two teacher.
“Well, yes, but...” the Class Two teacher said, sweating. “It’s Ji Fengxue’s first day, she doesn’t know the rules yet...”
“Don’t worry, we return confiscated items the following week. Since she’s at this school, she has to hand them over, so it doesn’t affect her studies.” Xia Linxia waved her hand. “Bye-bye, Student Ji. Come find me after school on Friday to get your things.”
Ji Fengxue watched her saunter away, her ponytail practically flying to the sky. She couldn’t help but frown. “Teacher, her attire doesn’t conform to the school’s rules either.”
The teacher secretly gave her a look and whispered, “See that man in front of her? That’s her brother. He donates a lot of money to the school every year.”
Ji Fengxue looked away.
Xia Linxia returned to the classroom, immediately piled all her books on her desk, and then pulled out the confiscated comic book and opened it.
“What treasure did you get your hands on this time?” her deskmate, Qiu Xingzhou, asked.
“Never seen it before. It’s strange, with my vast experience in reading comics, there’s no way I wouldn’t know what this is. Want to read it together?” She pushed the comic over to him.
Qiu Xingzhou gave it a quick glance. It was full of pretty girls. “Not interested. Going to sleep.”
“You sleepyhead.” Xia Linxia started reading it herself.
Yo, it’s a school-life comic. Yo, the female lead is so pretty, a cool and aloof top student. Yo, the second female lead is cute too, the student council president. Yo, why the hell hasn’t the male lead shown up yet?
Yo, why are the female lead and the second female lead blushing? Did I miss something?
She flipped back to the beginning, confirmed she hadn’t missed any plot points, then her eyes slowly widened. She carefully turned to the next page—the two female leads were kissing!
Yo, there’s something not right about this comic!
She snapped the comic shut. A moment later, she couldn’t resist her curiosity and peeked at a corner.
Just then, someone tapped on the window. She jumped, and the comic fell to the floor. Everyone looked her way. Her face turned bright red as she quickly picked it up and hid it in Qiu Xingzhou’s desk.
Only then did she turn to look at the person outside the window—Ji Fengxue.
She stormed out, puffing her cheeks. “What do you want!”
“Was it good?” Ji Fengxue gave her a meaningful look.
“I wasn’t reading it!” Xia Linxia stood with her hands on her hips, her eyes darting around, refusing to look at her. “Our student council is always impartial and would never peek at any contraband!”
“Is that so? Well, that’s a shame. I was going to say I have the second volume here and wanted to let you have a look,” Ji Fengxue said with regret.
Xia Linxia sized her up and said with great seriousness, “I see, you were hiding another one! Hand it over!”
Ji Fengxue took another book with a cover out of her bag and whispered, “The content in this one... is rather explicit. Make sure the teachers don’t find it.”
Xia Linxia confiscated it immediately. “I am upright and incorruptible.”
During gym class, they ran two laps around the track and were then dismissed. Xia Linxia looked around and thought the timing was perfect. There weren’t many people in the classroom, so she hurried back to continue reading the comic.
It was like a whole new world had opened up. The forbidden love was so thrilling.
The class period passed, and she finally finished the first volume. She gently stroked the cover of the second volume, remembering what Ji Fengxue had said. She knew this thing had to be kept out of sight and wasn’t suitable for reading in the classroom, so she put both books in her schoolbag.
But in the next class, the homeroom teacher walked in, followed by a group of student council members. “A student has reported that an obscene magazine is being circulated in our class. Everyone, grab your schoolbags and stand outside for an inspection.”
Xia Linxia: Danger!
The search turned up several boys who were hiding magazines.
The student council vice president, Zhao Tinglu, was Xia Linxia’s sworn enemy. The two couldn’t stand each other. Seeing Xia Linxia clutching her schoolbag, her face pale with fear, an idea struck her. She walked up to her. “President, let’s have a look at your bag.”
Xia Linxia gritted her teeth. “There’s nothing in here but textbooks!”
“Then what’s the harm in taking a look?”
The homeroom teacher said, “Everyone must be checked. Don’t miss anyone.”
Xia Linxia reluctantly opened her schoolbag.
Zhao Tinglu found a bag of makeup, which was one thing, but also playing cards and a mini mahjong set! Finally, she fixed her gaze on a strangely packaged book and pulled it out.
Xia Linxia’s legs gave way. She instinctively grabbed onto a person passing by, leaning on her shoulder and murmuring weakly, “I’m done for. Sister, remember to burn some paper money for me next year at Qingming.”
The commotion attracted a crowd of onlookers from both inside and outside the class. Zhao Tinglu looked at her face, then smugly opened the book, flipping right to a page showing the female reproductive system. “Hmph! How obscene!”
All the students: “Ooh!”
All the students: “...Pfft!”
It was just a damn biology book!
Xia Linxia’s legs were steady again. She was back. She thought to herself, Ji Fengxue is a damn genius. Isn’t this ‘explicit content’?
She cheerfully patted her sister’s shoulder, then turned to look. A shock!
“Crap, why is it you?” she stared, dumbfounded, at Ji Fengxue.
Ji Fengxue glanced at her hand and said coolly, “I was about to ask you the same thing.”
Xia Linxia slapped her own hand. “Oh, this damn hand of mine.”
A week passed. Qiu Xingzhou leaned over his desk to share some gossip with her. “Lately, there’s been a huge crowd outside Class Two, all there to see Ji Fengxue. A few guys even got into a fight over her.”
“Pah, what a femme fatale,” Xia Linxia commented. “Don’t be fooled by her prim and proper act. She’s rotten to the core.”
“You’re just jealous.” Qiu Xingzhou turned to the student behind them. “Xiang Huaimeng, what do you think of this Ji Fengxue person?”
Xiang Huaimeng: “So pretty! So cool and aloof, I love it!”
Xia Linxia’s heart skipped a beat. She suddenly remembered the question of Ji Fengxue’s sexuality. But what if she was straight, just like her, and was just curious?
As the final bell rang, many of the young couples in the school made plans to go home together. Xia Linxia was packing her bag when she suddenly noticed the entire class had gone silent.
“Hello everyone, I’m looking for Xia Linxia.” Ji Fengxue was standing at the door.
“What are you looking at? We’re not dating!” Xia Linxia waved her hands, slung her bag over her shoulder, and walked out.
The two walked side by side, stunning a crowd of admirers.
—School Forum—
【The transfer student and the student council president went into the little grove—】
1F: Crap, when did they get so close? Is it true that beauties only befriend other beauties?
2F: Ji Fengxue doesn’t have a single friend in her class, and now she’s all chummy with our school darling?
3F: The dilemma, should I marry wife Xia or wife Ji today?
4F: You’re dreaming, you upstairs. For the sake of world peace, it’s better to let wife Xia and wife Ji be together.
5F: Crap, the person upstairs must be an amazing shipper. I’m shipping XiaJi now!
...
Xia Linxia was only trying to return the comic and phone to the other girl. Just after they had exchanged the items, they heard a rustling sound nearby, followed by the ambiguous sounds of kissing.
Xia Linxia picked up her red armband, ready to go and catch them, but Ji Fengxue stopped her in time. “It’s after school now.”
“So what if it’s after school? Once a president, always their father. To do this in front of me, such unfilial children.” Xia Linxia started walking over, but then she let out a scream. “Ahhh! Which bastard took a crap here!”
She was completely numb.
She had no heart to discipline these unfilial children anymore. She kicked off her shoe and hopped out on one leg. After hopping for a few dozen meters, she couldn’t go on and leaned against a tree, planning to call her mom for help.
Just then, Ji Fengxue walked up to her, unable to hide the amusement in her eyes. “Let me help you walk.”
Being helped wouldn’t solve the problem; it was still a long way to the main gate. She pushed her luck. “How about you carry me?”
“I shouldn’t have bothered with you,” Ji Fengxue rolled her eyes.
Xia Linxia tugged on her clothes. “Be a good person and see it through. At worst, your name will never appear in my demerit book.”
“You’d better keep your word.” Ji Fengxue threw her schoolbag to her. She beamed, slinging both bags over her shoulders, and then climbed onto Ji Fengxue’s back. Ji Fengxue hooked her legs and lifted her up. Xia Linxia was hoisted up and then sighed, “Oof—it’s crushing my chest.”
Ji Fengxue: “...”
Xia Linxia was not one to keep her thoughts to herself. “So, why do you have that comic?”
“What do you think?”
“You like girls?”
“Mm,” Ji Fengxue nodded.
“Holy crap.” Xia Linxia was so shocked she almost dropped the schoolbags.
“Don’t you dare write my name in your little book.”
“...Fine.” Xia Linxia turned her head to look at her profile, utterly confused. “Why do you like girls?”
Ji Fengxue thought for a moment, then couldn’t be bothered to explain. “There’s no reason or logic to it.”
Xia Linxia stared blankly at her ear, then saw her forehead starting to sweat. She said instinctively, “You’re quite good-looking. You should have no trouble finding a partner.”
“I’ll take that as a good omen.”
Xia Linxia was curious again. “So what type of girl do you like?”
Ji Fengxue paused. “Big-chested and brainless.”
“Why brainless?”
“Easy to fool.”
“Tsk, tsk, tsk. Only a brainless idiot would end up with a black-hearted person like you.” Xia Linxia rolled her eyes, then said with a serious tone, “Anyway, we’re in our third year of high school now. You should focus on your studies instead of dating.”
Ji Fengxue was very surprised. To think such words would come from her mouth?
Xia Linxia: “Otherwise, won’t it affect your grades?”
Ji Fengxue had a strange expression. “It’s my studies that are affecting my dating life.”
“Eh? How are your grades then?”
“Terrible.”
“Why?” Xia Linxia asked in disbelief. She instinctively leaned closer, her mouth almost touching her ear. “Aren’t the cool and aloof types usually top students?”
Ji Fengxue subtly turned her head away. “Who told you that?”
“The comic.”
“...”
Seeing her turn away, Xia Linxia couldn’t help but pinch her ear. But the other girl seemed about to let go, so she quickly wrapped her legs forward, hooking them tightly around her waist. If she was going to fall, they were going down together.
After finally steadying herself, she continued to ask, “Oh right, how does the comic end? Do the cool and aloof top student and the student council president end up together?”
Unable to do anything else, Ji Fengxue hoisted her up a little higher. “She dies. The student council president is gone.”
“It’s actually a bad ending? I’m not reading it then.” Xia Linxia sneered. But then she saw her smile secretly and angrily squeezed her legs, trying to strangle her. “You lied to me!”
Ji Fengxue’s body stiffened.
Seeing her face gradually turn red, Xia Linxia thought she was having trouble breathing and lowered her legs, saying languidly, “So what’s their ending then?”
“They got together,” Ji Fengxue said, turning her head to look into her eyes. “They were always together. Are you satisfied with that ending?”
“Satisfied,” Xia Linxia smiled brightly.
