Chapter 137
They had never actually confronted the Vampire King, and the method they devised was found only after scouring through all the records left by their ancestors. However, they couldn't guarantee if it would actually work on him.
They didn't expect to kill the Vampire King; they only hoped he would fall back into his deep sleep.
In truth, the method wasn't particularly effective.
After the Vampire King, Boyis Chesterton, awoke and encountered Shasha, he merely found her blood exceptionally delicious and decided to keep her by his side.
From a young age, Shasha had been raised by the Church to be exceedingly naive.
The Church had considered teaching Shasha some tactics to use against Boyis, but given how long he had lived, they realized that if Shasha truly harbored such intentions, he would surely see through her.
Even if he couldn't, vampires had their own methods, and he could easily make Shasha reveal her true thoughts.
They abandoned their original plan and raised Shasha to be a "silly sweet" girl.
Then, after confirming Boyis had awakened, they kept it from Shasha and deliberately orchestrated an accident to deliver her right to him.
There were, of course, advantages to raising her as a "silly sweet" girl. At the very least, Shasha was a true blank slate, so Boyis wouldn't be particularly wary of her.
But being a "silly sweet" girl also had its drawbacks.
It only took three months for Shasha, who stayed by Boyis's side, to go from being fearful, longing for the Church to rescue her, and trying to escape, to becoming completely lost in his tenderness.
As the Vampire King, Boyis was, of course, exceptionally handsome.
And since Shasha was such a delicious meal, Boyis naturally didn't want her fear of him to affect her taste. Therefore, in the beginning, he was exceedingly gentle and patient with her.
Even when Shasha tried to escape, he remained gentle and doting, though also domineering, of course.
He didn't fault her for wanting to run, but he also forbade her from leaving his castle.
The "silly sweet" Shasha naturally couldn't resist such a powerful and handsome man who treated her with such tenderness, so she fell for him.
But Boyis had not. He only saw Shasha as food—a particularly delicious meal.
It was true that Shasha was delicious to him, but that didn't mean he wanted to eat the same dish every single day.
Even if other dishes weren't as tasty as Shasha, he still wanted to sample different flavors.
However, given Shasha's special status, he was discreet about it at first.
But being discreet didn't mean he couldn't be found out.
Not all vampires were loyal to their king, Boyis.
There were ambitious nobles who coveted his position.
They, too, naturally wanted a taste of Shasha's delectable blood.
Thus, while Boyis was out "snacking," an ambitious vampire led Shasha away under the pretext of showing her what the king was up to.
Shasha, who was always bored in the castle, agreed with little hesitation.
Boyis was caught in the act.
But he didn't think anything of it. After all, why should he give up an entire menu for a single dish?
His attitude, however, was something Shasha could not accept.
Shasha had thought they were in love, that she was special, that with her, he would want no one else.
But reality dealt her a harsh slap in the face.
After Shasha found out, Boyis stopped hiding it. The villa, which had once housed only her, began to fill with other women.
Even though Shasha remained Boyis's favorite, she could no longer bear it.
She reverted to how she had been when she first arrived at the castle, once again thinking of escape and longing for the Church to rescue her.
Boyis remained as gentle as ever, but the thought of the other women in the castle made it impossible for Shasha to continue deceiving herself.
But even so, Shasha's blood remained delicious, and Boyis had no intention of letting her go or killing her over it.
As for the noble who had led Shasha out, he had fled the moment her emotions flared, deliberately leaving behind the scent of a werewolf to cover his own tracks.
Boyis knew but didn't pursue it. Even aware that some vampires beneath him had treacherous ambitions, he paid it no mind.
After all, vampires were a race that prized bloodlines above all. He had only recently awakened and couldn't be bothered with such trivialities; he just wanted to enjoy himself.
He would deal with the restless ones properly when he found the time.
There was still hope for Shasha's escape, thanks to the werewolves, the vampires' mortal enemies.
Unlike the Church, which appeared docile on the surface, the werewolves simply wanted to kill vampires. Now that they knew the location of the Vampire King's lair, they would naturally launch a bold assault.
They chose to attack on a day with a bright sun, since vampires fear sunlight. That night also happened to be a full moon, and they would need the power of the moonlight.
Shasha escaped during the fight.
But it was useless. Having been specially raised by the Church, she would have been captured by vampires countless times without its protection.
After all, her blood was so delicious that even the king, Boyis, loved it. What chance did other vampires have?
Ordinary vampires were utterly powerless against its allure.
They would die after a single sip, but they wouldn't know that beforehand.
Shasha managed to escape.
She might have been relatively safe during the day, but once night fell, she was in danger.
She was caught by an ordinary vampire.
And the sight of the ordinary vampire's soul dissipating after a single drink of her blood was witnessed by a werewolf who was hunting vampires.
She was then brought back to the werewolf main camp, seen as a powerful weapon against vampires.
But Shasha herself didn't know why this was the case. The werewolves couldn't get any answers from her, but knowing her blood was harmful to vampires, they planned to send her back to Boyis, telling her their plan to deal with him.
Shasha couldn't accept it.
Though she resented Boyis, her love for him was also real.
But the werewolves didn't care what she wanted. They only needed her to follow their instructions, or they would kill her.
Just then, members of the Church arrived.
They explained Shasha's origins to the werewolf leader. They also pointed out that Shasha had been with Boyis for months, and he must have drunk a great deal of her blood. Yet, since Boyis was still perfectly fine, her blood was likely useless against him.
As they conspired with the werewolves on how to deal with Boyis, Shasha was left in a state of complete shock.
So her entire life, from beginning to end, had been a lie.
The reason she was born was simply to be a weapon against Boyis?
She could refuse the werewolves.
But faced with the people from the Church, even knowing they had orchestrated her entire life, she found herself unable to refuse.
She agreed to their plan to approach Boyis again and deal with him as they instructed.
But when she finally faced Boyis, her heart softened once more.
