Chapter 147
The meaning behind their words was perfectly clear. Boyis and those loyal to him looked grim.
Those with ulterior motives, however, wore varied expressions.
“So, are you planning to take my place?”
Boyis directed this question at Qiu Chi. He hadn’t considered the possibility that she would install someone else and was about to tell her that since she wasn’t a vampire, it would be useless even if she did replace him.
But before he could continue, Qiu Chi cut him off. “No, I’m planning to install another vampire in your place. Nate, for example.”
Boyis’s brow furrowed instantly.
Before he could say anything, Serena spoke up. “You really think highly of yourself. You may be powerful, but you’re only one person. Are you that confident you can deal with all of us?”
“Exactly! If we all team up, you’ll die no matter how strong you are!”
“King, just give the word, and we’ll fight her to the death. You are the only king in our hearts.”
The once-quiet scene erupted into a clamor as they all pledged their loyalty to Boyis.
Meanwhile, those with other ideas remained silent, their tight-lipped expressions making them stand out.
A vampire, already incensed by the recent events, turned to the silent one beside him and demanded, “Why aren’t you speaking? Are you also disloyal to the King?”
This scene repeated itself elsewhere.
Some remained silent, while others were direct. “So what if I am? Just because you’re willing to submit to another doesn’t mean everyone is. We are both noble vampires, so how am I inferior to him? If he can be king, why can’t I?”
Qiu Chi hadn’t even done anything yet, and chaos had already broken out below. Though no one had started fighting physically, the verbal sparring was intense.
Boyis’s brow tightened. “Enough! All of you, shut up!” he commanded in a cold voice.
At his shout, the scene fell silent once more.
Boyis looked at Qiu Chi, who was leisurely watching the show, then glanced at Nate before asking, “When did you two meet? Did you approach me from the very beginning just to secure this position for him? Then why didn’t you act sooner?”
Qiu Chi gave Boyis a surprised look. “I’m puzzled. What’s the point of asking all this?”
At a time like this, he was still asking such pointless questions. Did any of that matter now?
“And do I need to remind you? You approached me, not the other way around.”
He was the one who coveted Shasha’s blood. Although the Church had a hand in designing the situation, the fact that he craved her blood was undeniable. Now he was trying to turn the tables and blame her. How shameless.
After saying her piece, Qiu Chi addressed the vampires present again. “Boyis has been king for quite a while. It’s time for a change. Your new king is Nate. If you’re not convinced, speak up now, and I can send you on your way.”
As she spoke, Qiu Chi took out her whip.
Nate, who had been quite excited, was now speechless. “…” Wasn’t this a bit too perfunctory?
He followed up on Qiu Chi’s words. “I admit I’m taking advantage of Miss Shasha’s power. I don’t need you to serve me as king forever. As long as you swear the Blood Kin’s oath to willingly serve me as king for one hundred years, after which this position will go to whoever is most capable. How about it?”
Nate’s words offered an opportunity to the other vampires who had designs on the throne.
But those loyal to Boyis thought differently. “In your dreams!”
Unfortunately, no one paid him any mind.
The first vampire to swear the oath was Hall.
Boyis clenched his fists, his face dark as he watched everything unfold.
Another vampire below made his move.
Before swearing the oath, he specifically asked Qiu Chi, “I want to know, why did you choose Nate? Is there anything special about him?”
They were all noble vampires. How were they any worse than Nate? Why not choose one of them?
This was the question on the minds of all the vampires who coveted the throne.
“Oh, there’s nothing special about him. I just took a million from him, and this is me paying him back.”
All the vampires present: “…” Just for a million? This was utterly absurd.
Serena sneered, “Just a million? I can give you a hundred million! Abandon this idea right now!”
Qiu Chi flicked her whip, and Nate, taking the cue, launched an attack on Serena.
No one had expected that these two would be the first to fight.
Those who wanted to help Serena were blocked by Qiu Chi. As for helping Nate, there was no one.
They were all waiting. If Nate won, so be it. If he died, they were quite keen on picking up the pieces.
However, before they could seize any opportunity, they had to fight as well.
Because halfway through Nate and Serena’s battle, werewolves snuck in.
Now, they had no choice but to put aside their grievances and deal with the werewolves.
Of course, some vampires tried to use the chaos to launch a sneak attack on Nate, but Qiu Chi stopped them.
As for their fights with the werewolves? That wasn’t her business.
The werewolves ignored Qiu Chi, focusing solely on attacking the vampires.
Qiu Chi watched the spectacle for a good while.
In the end, as the werewolves were retreating, she seized Boyis.
Those loyal to him immediately became vigilant again. “Let our king go, or don’t blame us for being impolite.”
Qiu Chi said, “Those who are going to swear, hurry up. Those who don’t will be killed. I’ll count to ten. Be quick.”
“1, 2, 3…”
Qiu Chi counted slowly, not forgetting to add to Boyis, “Don’t just stay silent. Why don’t you persuade those people to be sensible? After all, they’re loyal to you. You wouldn’t want to see them die, would you?”
“7…”
“You didn’t even say 4, 5, and 6 before jumping to 7?”
Boyis finally spoke, not to order them to fight, nor to persuade them to swear an oath, but to question Qiu Chi’s counting.
Qiu Chi kicked him. “The time I wasted talking to you was enough for me to count to ten.”
“Alright, I’ve reached ten. Have you made your decision? If you don’t swear, I’ll start killing.”
As she spoke, Qiu Chi raised her whip.
Serena declared, “Even if you kill me, I will never honor another as king. In my heart, Boyis is the eternal king.”
Qiu Chi nodded. “Good. Very devoted. You can go on ahead. I’ll send Boyis to join you shortly. Don’t worry, you won’t be lonely for long.”
With that, Qiu Chi struck down with her whip.
Boyis still had his die-hard loyalists, but there were also those who didn’t want to die and swore the oath.
Throughout this, Boyis watched in silence, not uttering a single word.
Qiu Chi had no time to deal with him right now.
In a short time, Qiu Chi had killed a significant number of noble vampires.
The rest all swore the oath.
Only then did Qiu Chi lower her whip with satisfaction and turn to Nate. “I’ve done what I promised. Now that you’re the Vampire King, you’d better keep the vampires in line. I can put you on the throne, and I can just as easily pull you down. Be obedient. Don’t court death, understand?”
Although she would be leaving soon, a little intimidation was still necessary.
Nate smiled and nodded. “You can rest assured on that point. I will definitely keep them in check and prevent them from harming humans.”
Qiu Chi was very pleased with Nate’s pragmatism. “Alright, you’re not needed here anymore. You can all leave.”
Qiu Chi dismissed all the vampires, leaving only Boyis behind.
