Chapter 155
After the Crown Prince recovered from his illness, he naturally had to continue his studies with the Grand Tutor.
Qiu Chi, however, was not in the mood to learn those things.
So, in the Grand Tutor's eyes, the Crown Prince had skipped class. The people of the Eastern Palace immediately went to report it to the Emperor.
As for Qiu Chi, she was naturally wandering around aimlessly in men's clothing.
Even if there was a twisted fate between the male and female leads, Jian Ninghua had been beaten up by Qiu Chi and was now lying in bed recovering. It was impossible for the two of them to meet by chance on the street.
Qiu Chi, however, did see the Tanhua Lang and his beloved.
Once the three days were up, Qiu Chi went to the imperial palace, while the Tanhua Lang naturally went out to find his beloved.
The Tanhua Lang's beloved, Wan'er, was a gentle yet strong woman. Although the Tanhua Lang had married the princess due to an imperial edict, and she was heartbroken, she didn't blame him for anything. After all, she knew of his difficulties.
She had actually considered that since he was married, perhaps she should let go of their relationship. But when he came to see her today, she still couldn't let go.
When she heard him say they could still be together, that nothing had happened between him and the princess, and that the princess had even agreed to them being together, her heart was filled with complex emotions.
Qiu Chi didn't know about Wan'er's inner turmoil; she just glanced at them for a moment before looking away.
She wanted to put the Tanhua Lang in power, so naturally, she couldn't let him only know about romance. He had to learn the ways of being a ruler and serving the country.
After deciding to find a teacher for the Tanhua Lang that very night, Qiu Chi went elsewhere.
After wandering around for a bit, she returned to the Eastern Palace.
In the Eastern Palace, the Grand Tutor had already left and was not there.
The moment Qiu Chi returned to the Eastern Palace, a eunuch from the Emperor's side arrived, saying that the Emperor wanted to see her.
Qiu Chi followed the eunuch to see the Emperor.
The current Emperor was already fifty. Although he was well-maintained, his vitality was quite lacking. Moreover, even at his age, he was still trying to produce an heir, and the dark circles under his eyes were remarkably obvious.
After Qiu Chi arrived, she directly found a place to sit down, neither bowing nor speaking.
The Emperor, who had originally intended to give Qiu Chi the cold shoulder and teach her a lesson, became furious upon seeing this. He grabbed a nearby teacup and threw it at her. "You are truly too insolent! Do you not even know to bow and greet Us upon seeing Us? It seems We have spoiled you too much over the years, making you so audacious!"
Qiu Chi dodged it by turning sideways, then raised her eyes to look at the Emperor and said, "Bow and greet? I'm afraid you are not worthy of it."
After a pause, Qiu Chi laughed again. "Spoiled? In what way was I spoiled? Was it the kind of spoiling where someone born a girl is forced to pretend to be a man? Or the kind where she is confined to the Eastern Palace most of the time, unable to go out? Or perhaps the kind where, as soon as her fifteenth birthday passed, you couldn't wait to marry her off?"
"I'm quite curious. This so-called spoiling of yours—where does it even begin? Why don't you tell me about it?"
Although the Emperor was always thinking about producing an heir and did some disgusting things, he wasn't a fool.
Qiu Chi's calm and composed demeanor now made him narrow his eyes, and much of his initial anger subsided. "We haven't seen you in three days, yet you've changed so much. We can hardly recognize you."
When facing the Emperor, Pei Siyi was, for the most part, meek and obedient. Whatever the Emperor said, went.
Pei Siyi's situation, when it came down to it, wasn't much different from Jian Ninghua's. The only difference was that Madam Jian's desire to control Jian Ninghua was mixed with a bit of love for her child, whereas the Emperor's control over Pei Siyi was purely for the sake of preserving the Pei Dynasty.
Now, Qiu Chi's tone seemed placid, but her arrogance was etched into her very bones. If the Emperor didn't have his suspicions, it would only mean he was blind in both eye and heart.
However, even if he asked, Qiu Chi wouldn't necessarily answer truthfully.
"I have indeed changed a great deal, and the reason for this change has to do with you. Before, I thought that if there was something I had to endure, I would just endure it. But now, I've come to understand. One only gets one life in this world, so why on earth should I have to endure?"
Listening to Qiu Chi's words, the Emperor didn't take her seriously in his heart.
Perhaps because Pei Siyi had been too obedient, never defying him in fifteen years, he found Qiu Chi's sudden outburst somewhat novel. He didn't stop her from speaking; instead, he even responded.
"You don't want to endure it anymore? So what do you want to do? Is today's matter what you wanted to do?"
A smile playing on her lips, Qiu Chi shook her head. "No. What I want to do... you will see it in the future. It's not that I can't tell you now, but I just don't really feel like talking about it at the moment."
After Qiu Chi finished speaking, the Emperor fell silent for a moment, then sneered, "Since you don't want to talk today, you need never speak of it again. You are Our only child now, and We will not harm you. But that does not mean you can be so insolent, relying on Our indulgence."
"Before, We were mindful that you are, after all, Our child. But now, it seems We no longer need to be so scrupulous. Some wandering spirit from who-knows-where has possessed this body. Fine. After all, what We want is the Pei family, Our bloodline."
After the Emperor finished speaking, he slapped the Dragon Throne he was sitting on. A group of men in black then emerged silently and surrounded Qiu Chi, who was still seated.
Qiu Chi wasn't flustered. Instead, with a hint of curiosity, she asked, "What do you plan to do?"
"What We plan to do, you will soon find out. Seize her, but keep her alive."
As his voice fell, the men in black all sprang into action.
Qiu Chi remained calmly seated, lowering her gaze in thought for a moment before saying pensively, "I think I probably know what you want to do."
Sidestepping a grabbing hand, Qiu Chi moved straight out of the encirclement and sat down on the other side before speaking again. "I didn't realize you truly did think of Pei Siyi as your child."
What could the Emperor do?
Produce an heir, of course.
He couldn't produce an heir himself, so he had Pei Siyi marry to produce one.
The fact that Pei Siyi hadn't consummated the marriage with the Tanhua Lang certainly wouldn't have escaped his notice, but he hadn't interfered. This was likely because he still thought of Pei Siyi as his child and thus didn't force them to consummate the marriage.
But now, he had surely noticed that Qiu Chi was different from Pei Siyi.
He naturally assumed that a wandering spirit had possessed Pei Siyi's body, and since he believed himself to be the True Dragon, Son of Heaven, he thought a mere wandering spirit couldn't possibly harm him.
Therefore, the methods that couldn't be used on Pei Siyi before could now be used on this body possessed by a wandering spirit.
After all, this body was his child's body; it carried his bloodline.
Once this body became pregnant, the child would naturally also carry his bloodline.
As for the wandering spirit possessing Pei Siyi's body and where Pei Siyi herself had gone, he clearly didn't care.
Having figured it out, Qiu Chi couldn't help but laugh. "Your plan is quite well-thought-out. A pity, but they can't catch me, and your plan will never be realized."
As her words fell, Qiu Chi appeared directly in front of the Emperor and, without another word, killed him.
"That disgusting idea of yours can now disappear along with your death. Rest in peace."
Originally, Qiu Chi had wanted to wait a bit longer, as she still needed to properly teach and torment the Tanhua Lang. But who could blame her when this emperor was so disgusting? Qiu Chi simply couldn't stand it anymore and killed him.
Still, killing him and switching to her own methods wasn't a bad outcome either.
