Chapter 192: Tycoon Town (8)
Busy solving the puzzle, Jiang Ting didn't actually hear Ji Ning's little movements.
He grabbed her hand, turned around and pulled her tightly into his embrace with one arm. Pinching Ji Ning's chin, he started kissing her without another word.
Ji Ning broke free from his hold and wrapped both arms around Jiang Ting's neck, kissing him back.
The last time she saw him was in the Ancient Side Story Sandbox.
That man used his high position to bully her, a little wet nurse. Just thinking about it made her both ashamed and indignant.
But that kind of thrill was particularly memorable. After one Instance without him, she had actually started to miss him a little.
Jiang Ting seemed to miss her even more. As he kissed her, he wrapped his arms around her and shifted their positions, pressing her against the table, kissing and touching her right there on the edge.
His hands slipped inside her clothes, setting her on fire everywhere. He fondled her breasts without even pulling her bra out of the way.
Ji Ning was unbearably frustrated. She wanted to cry out but Jiang Ting sealed her mouth, leaving her muffled and whimpering. She could only push at him with her hands.
Although she really, really wanted to get frisky with him right now, don't forget there's still a stage challenge, hey!
Sensing Ji Ning go from eager response to resistance, Jiang Ting finally let her go. His voice hoarse, he asked, "What's wrong? You don't like it?"
Ji Ning was annoyed and embarrassed, struggling not to laugh. She scolded him, "We still have to solve the puzzle—there's a countdown!"
"So what?" Jiang Ting looked completely indifferent. After speaking, he closed his eyes again, leaned in to kiss Ji Ning, and licked her lips completely clean. Only then did he scoop her down. "We'll make it in time."
That dapper, roguish look gave Jiang Ting's face an indescribable sexiness. Ji Ning swallowed involuntarily. To keep herself from crossing the line with him, she simply turned her back and stopped looking at him, checking what puzzle had appeared on this table.
A balance scale, a pile of coins, a pen, a box with a round hole, and a blackboard with writing on it. Only five minutes remained on the countdown timer!
Ji Ning carefully read the words on the blackboard, a string of explanatory rules: "Among twelve coins, one is counterfeit and has a different weight from the others. Using the scale only three times, find this coin and place it into the box."
Time was too tight. Ji Ning stared at the heap of one-dollar coins, her mind still a bit jumbled.
She could only weigh three times, and she didn't know whether the fake coin was heavier or lighter than the real ones. So she couldn't just start by splitting them into two groups of six to compare, because there was no definitive reference point.
But then she noticed that Jiang Ting had already marked the coins: four had circles drawn on them, four had triangles, and the remaining four had squares.
She turned her head toward Jiang Ting. It looked like he had already done the first step of grouping before she arrived.
Ji Ning asked, "You've already figured it all out?"
Standing calmly in front of the table, Jiang Ting placed the pile with circles and the pile with triangles onto the left and right trays of the scale.
He gave a faint smile. "I could do this problem back in elementary school."

"Jiang Ting had a sour face just a moment ago, but the second his wife shows up, his tail goes straight up into the sky."
Ji Ning recalled that Jiang Ting had once quite convincingly played a math teacher in a previous Instance. She nodded as if suddenly enlightened, let out a long "Oh," and leaned in beside him to watch.
Actually, she could vaguely see the logic already, but since Boss Jiang said it was a piece of cake, she might as well save herself the effort.
As Jiang Ting weighed the coins, he gave a brief explanation: "When you split them into three piles, first weigh the triangles against the circles. Two things can happen. One, the scale stays balanced—then all four triangles and all four circles are real, and the counterfeit is among the squares. Two, the scale tips. Just like right now, the circle coins are heavier. That means all the square coins are real.
Now, take away three circle coins and replace them with three triangle coins. Make the heavier side one circle plus three triangles. Then change the lighter side to three squares plus one triangle.
Next, three outcomes are possible. One, the scale doesn't change: whichever side was heavier before remains heavier. That means the problem is between the two coins we didn't move—either the circle is heavier or the triangle is lighter. Compare one of them against a square to get the answer. Two, the scale reverses its tilt. That means the problem is on the side with three triangles and one circle, and among those three triangles, one has a different weight and is lighter than a real coin. With one weighing left, you can just compare any two of those three triangle coins to find the answer. The third case is what's happening now: after the swap, the scale evens out. That means among the three removed circle-symbol coins, one is heavier than a real coin."
As he spoke, Jiang Ting took all eight coins off the scale trays. From the three circle coins set aside during the second swap, he casually picked two and placed one on each tray.
The scale still tilted slightly.
Then he picked up the heavier one, put it on his index finger, and flicked it upward with his thumb. The coin flipped up and landed steadily into the round recess of the box.
The three drawers of the wooden table unlocked with a crisp click.
Ji Ning stared blankly at Jiang Ting's calm, unruffled face. Her heart pounded uncontrollably, thump thump thump.

"That damn charm of a top student."
"Jiang Ting: Can't you give me something harder? Easy stuff like this doesn't give me enough of a showoff kick."
"I think he had plenty of a kick."
